Job Description

  • Job Title: Shipping and Receiving Clerk
  • Job Description
  • The Shipping and Receiving Clerk is responsible for accurately receiving incoming materials and shipping finished goods, while maintaining proper documentation and communication across departments.

This role ensures that orders are fulfilled correctly, inventory is handled safely and efficiently, and all shipping and receiving activities comply with internal quality and environmental management procedures.

  • Responsibilities
  • + Determine the correct amount of product required to fulfill each order and ensure availability before processing.

+ Retrieve product from storage and transport it to the designated shipping area in a safe and efficient manner.

+ Inform the scheduling team promptly when stock levels are insufficient to meet order requirements.

+ Ensure that all required stencils, barcodes, and labels are correctly applied to materials and finished goods.

+ Assemble finished pallets and finished goods, including wrapping and banding, to prepare them for shipment.

+ Unload incoming trucks and load outgoing trucks using appropriate equipment and safe handling practices.

+ Receive incoming shipments and place stock in designated locations according to established procedures.

+ Complete accurate receiving verification reports upon receipt of each item and submit them as required.

+ Coordinate with Quality Assurance (QA) when shipments are ready, including quality checks and customs-related paperwork as needed.

+ Verify that all necessary shipping documentation has been signed by the driver and that trailer numbers are correctly documented before the driver departs.

+ Identify and report problem conditions or discrepancies to the Shipping and Receiving Manager for resolution.

+ Contact truck lines to arrange shipments and confirm pickup and routing numbers with drivers prior to loading.

+ Send product certifications when required and ensure all documentation accompanies outgoing shipments.

+ Deliver completed shipment paperwork to the Sales department after each shipment is processed.

+ Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in compliance with company standards.

+ Enter receiving reports accurately into SAP and ensure data integrity for inventory records.

+ Obtain lot numbers from QA as required and ensure QA verifies correct receipt of bulk goods by signing receiving paperwork.

+ Report daily missing receipts to the Purchasing department and follow up as needed.

+ Log returnable containers that are received and shipped to maintain accurate container records.

+ Communicate effectively with team members across departments to support smooth shipping and receiving operations.

+ Understand and accurately pick and fill orders according to customer and production requirements.

+ Scan materials in and out of SAP to maintain real-time inventory tracking.

+ Operate a forklift safely to move materials, load and unload trucks, and handle product throughout the facility.

+ Ensure that Approved for use documentation is placed on raw materials before moving them to designated areas.

+ Retrieve all Environmental Management System (EMS) and Quality Management System (QMS) documentation through the company intranet and follow established procedures without shortcuts.

+ Perform scheduled cycle counts for finished goods to support accurate inventory control.

+ Work an uncommon shift when required, which may include overtime, nights, weekends, and holidays.

+ Perform general cleaning tasks including cleaning equipment, products, floors, and surrounding areas as needed.

  • Essential Skills
  • + 13 years of experience in manufacturing, production, or related industrial environments.

+ 13 years of experience with mixing, batching, compounding, or chemical-related production processes.

+ Experience with machine operation and blending in a manufacturing setting.

+ Ability to operate a forklift safely and efficiently.

+ Experience with batch production and batch documentation, including chemical handling.

+ Ability to perform general labor tasks such as loading, unloading, and material handling.

+ Ability to lift up to 60 pounds repeatedly throughout the shift.

+ Comfort working in a facility with strong odors and exposure to chemical manufacturing processes.

+ Ability to pass a skills key test as part of the hiring process.

+ Ability to pass an audiogram test to ensure suitability for working in environments with noise exposure.

+ High school diploma, GED, or equivalent level of education.

+ Ability to perform repetitive overhead reaching, twisting, turning, pivoting, bending, and crouching.

+ Ability to stand on feet for 810 hour shifts and frequently walk, climb ladders and stairs.

+ Ability to move on and off a forklift throughout the entire shift and perform cleaning tasks as required.

+ Ability to work scheduled shifts and overtime, including potential weekends and holidays, based on business needs.

  • Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • + Prior industrial cleaning or housekeeping experience in a manufacturing or plant environment.

+ Previous mixing and batching experience in chemical or production operations.

+ Prior forklift experience; formal forklift certification is offered and considered beneficial.

+ Experience in chemical manufacturing or handling chemical materials in production.

+ Comfort working in a manufacturing environment with moving equipment, noise, fumes, vibrations, and dust.

+ Ability to adapt to changing shift schedules, including 4-day/10-hour schedules and standard 8-hour shifts.

+ Strong attention to detail in documentation, inventory tracking, and quality-related procedures.

+ Effective communication skills for coordinating with QA, Scheduling, Purchasing, Sales, and other team members.

  • Work Environment
  • This role is based in a chemical plant focused primarily on automotive material production, with approximately 98% of output serving automotive applications.

The facility offers a climate-controlled work environment but involves exposure to typical manufacturing conditions such as moving equipment, noise, fumes, vibrations, and dust. Team members work standard 810 hour shifts and must be able to stand, walk, climb ladders and stairs, and move on and off forklifts throughout the shift. Overtime opportunities are communicated in advance, with schedules posted near time clocks, and may include Saturday-only or Saturday and Sunday work. The dress code requires steel-toed shoes, and the company provides safety personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, respirators, gloves, ear protection, and other gear necessary to perform duties safely.   • Pay and Benefits
  • The pay range for this position is $17.

00 - $19.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your jobclassification and length of employment.
