Shipping and Receiving Clerk Job Description The Shipping and Receiving Clerk safely and efficiently handles inbound and outbound freight, ensuring accurate loading, unloading, labeling, and documentation of all shipments within a clean, modern facility. Responsibilities Load inbound and outbound freight to and from vehicles and containers in a safe and efficient manner. Unload inbound and outbound containers and sort freight according to size, type, and destination. Read, decode, and decipher freight codes to expedite freight movement and support accurate tracing. Reconcile driver pick-up and delivery manifests to ensure all shipments are properly documented. Label freight clearly and accurately to support correct routing and handling. Weigh and dimensionalize freight to ensure accurate records and compliance with shipping requirements. Record damaged shipments and misrouted freight on the appropriate reports and documentation. Perform regular cleanup activities in the work area to maintain a safe, organized, and clean dock environment. Follow all safety procedures and operational guidelines while operating equipment and handling freight. Perform all essential functions of the role with or without reasonable accommodation. Essential Skills Proven experience with forklift operation in a shipping, receiving, or warehouse environment. Hands-on experience as an equipment operator in a freight or material handling setting. Strong material handling skills, including safe loading, unloading, and sorting of freight. Experience with inventory counting and basic inventory control processes. Ability to read, decode, and interpret freight codes and shipping documentation. Attention to detail when labeling, weighing, and dimensionalizing freight. Capability to accurately reconcile driver pick-up and delivery manifests. Commitment to maintaining a clean and safe work area on the dock. Ability to complete all essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation. Additional Skills & Qualifications Previous experience in a shipping and receiving or logistics environment. Familiarity with documenting damaged or misrouted freight on standard reports. Comfort working with varying freight sizes and types in a fast-paced setting. Work Environment This role is based in a clean, modern dock and warehouse environment with a focus on safety and organization. You will regularly use material handling equipment, including forklifts and other freight-handling tools. The position follows a structured shift schedule with two primary shifts and alternating weekly patterns. Shift 1A operates from 5:00 AM to 5:30 PM with a rotating schedule, including a combination of days in Week 1 and Week 2. Shift 1B also runs from 5:00 AM to 5:30 PM with a rotating schedule that includes different days in Week 1 and Week 2. Shift 2A operates from 5:00 PM to 5:30 AM with a similar rotating pattern across Week 1 and Week 2. Shift 2B also runs from 5:00 PM to 5:30 AM with a rotating weekly schedule. The environment involves working on and around loading docks, vehicles, and containers, with consistent emphasis on cleanliness, orderliness, and adherence to safety procedures. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Independence, KY. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $24.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
