Shipping Clerk / Kit Builder Job Description This role focuses on building and packaging various kits that contain components such as bolts, brackets, gaskets, washers, and accompanying work instructions. You will follow clearly labeled containers and part boxes, using provided instructions to determine the exact quantity of each item that goes into each kit. The work is structured, straightforward, and performed in a clean, organized environment with an efficient workflow. Responsibilities Build and assemble kits by accurately placing specified quantities of bolts, brackets, gaskets, washers, and other components into bags or boxes according to written work instructions. Review and follow detailed work instructions to determine correct parts, quantities, and packaging requirements for each kit. Inspect products and components for defects or damage before and during the packaging process, ensuring only quality parts are included in kits. Operate packaging machinery and equipment safely and correctly as part of the kit-building and shipping process. Measure, weigh, and count products and materials to verify quantities and maintain accuracy in each kit and shipment. Package finished products into boxes, containers, or pallets, ensuring items are secure and properly arranged for transport. Assemble, line, and pad cartons, crates, and containers using hand tools to protect products during shipping. Label packages with accurate identification, part numbers, and shipping information to support correct handling and delivery. Follow all safety guidelines and procedures while working at standing workstations and using tools and equipment. Maintain a consistent, reliable work pace to meet production goals, including working every other Saturday and optional additional Saturdays for overtime. Support general shipping and receiving activities as needed, ensuring materials and finished goods move efficiently through the facility. Essential Skills Ability to follow detailed written work instructions accurately and consistently. Basic math skills to measure, weigh, count, and verify quantities of parts and materials. Stable and recent work history, demonstrating reliability and commitment to previous roles. Experience or aptitude in assembly work, handling multiple small components and organizing them into kits. Familiarity with shipping and receiving processes, including packaging and labeling. Capability to pass a hand dexterity test, demonstrating fine motor skills for handling small parts. Ability to stand at workstations for extended periods while performing repetitive tasks. Willingness and availability to work 1st or 2nd shift and every other Saturday, with the option to work additional Saturdays for overtime. Additional Skills & Qualifications Comfort using hand tools to assemble, line, and pad cartons, crates, and containers. Attention to detail to identify defects or damages in products and ensure accurate labeling. Strong organizational skills to manage multiple labeled containers and part boxes at once. Dependable time management and punctuality to support production schedules and shift requirements. Ability to work effectively in a structured environment with established workflows and procedures. You will work primarily at standing workstations, handling small parts and packaging materials throughout your shift. The role is available on 1st shift (6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.) and 2nd shift (3:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.), with a requirement to work every other Saturday and the option to volunteer for additional Saturdays to earn overtime. The environment supports safe operation of packaging machinery and use of hand tools, with clearly labeled containers and instructions to guide daily tasks. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Burton, MI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $15.00 - $15.50/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
