GENERAL DESCRIPTION

: Perform various duties relative to handling material and freight shipments entering and leaving the plant. Perform visual and dimensional inspection of purchased components andproduction parts. Operate various power-driven equipment, including overhead crane and assorted lift trucks to transport materials. Perform any other duties associated with shipping, receiving, packing, and inspecting of production materials. Promote team work and convey a genuine interest in supporting the lean production philosophy. Maintain acceptable levels of performance as measured against work cell benchmarks. In addition, provide input relative to continuously improving the overall production performance of the department.

QUALIFICATIONS

• High school education or equivalent. Must have a valid Michigan driver's license.
• Must successfully satisfy the established job qualifying criteria.
• Requires a two year commitment

EXPERIENCE, SKILL, JOB KNOWLEDGE

: Operate various power-driven equipment, including assorted lift trucks and overhead crane to transport palletized containers, individual cartons, barrels, bundles of steel tubing and solid bar stock, etc. to numerous plant locations and to load shipments to and from trucks. Demonstrate exceptional performance and driving skills. Employee must possess a valid "Powered Industrial Truck Permit" and/or "Crane Operators License." Perform daily and periodic inspection of mobile equipment for preventative maintenance purposes. Report any equipment when out-of-standard conditions are detected. Use steel cables, wooden blocks, steel storage racks, harnesses or any other equipment needed to handle material in this area. Transfer necessary items to and from bins, shelves, and other required locations. Pack loose material for shipment as the situation may require. Perform accurate and timely cycle counts on quarterly basis. Possess understanding of normal routing and flow of parts and materials within the area and stations at which operations are performed. Check receivables for "as received" condition, proper counts and contents. Check all packing slips and properly complete freight bills on all received material. Maintain accurate receiving, inventory, shipping, and inspection records by performing transactions in SAP and/or personal computer system. Interpret fairly complicated prints. Identify and inspect as-received, in-process and finished material for finish, dimensional accuracy, concentricity, alignment, and other factors using a wide variety of gaging equipment. Setup indicator and gauging arrangements and make mathematical calculations in some phases of the work. Maintain proper identification on each container or bundle. Identify and report print and/or specification non-conformances. Document the receipt of warranty material and deliver to the Engineering Storage Area. Perform hand and scale counts as required. Retrieve tool crib items. Issue tool crib items to employees upon request. Identify tool crib items that require rework, regrind or repair and prepare these items with the necessary documents for shipments to vendors for the required service. Scrap-out all items that cannot be reworked, repaired or reground and adjust inventory records accordingly. Prepare containers for shipment by assuring proper quantities, labeling and securing loads adequately to withstand shipment. Frequent break down of loads to pack shipments to customer order quantities. Process shipping paperwork and ensure each order is packed to individual customer requirements and to AIAG standards. Operate computerized equipment and scanners to generate bar code and address labels. Open and seal boxes and crates. Periodic rotation of job responsibilities to enhance and retain current job knowledge. Perform all job functions as directed by appropriate supervisorin order to maintain operation of assigned area, which may occur while performing any of the above functions. Work in conjunction with area team leaders, supervisors, MRO buyer and product and quality engineers to maintain standards of production. Ability to effectively communicate, plan, organize and problem solve is essential. Assist and train fellow team members when required.

JOB ATTENTIVENESS

: Employee is responsible for maintaining quality of parts and therefore must be familiar with and adhere to the total operator control philosophy. Follow prescribed quality procedures and record data on proper quality documents. Immediate recognition and containment of defective, materials is required. Exercise good judgment while operating various power-driven equipment. Observe and generally be aware of traffic conditions and details of material movements while operating power driven trucks. Keep aisles open and benches free of congestion. Perform daily inspection of mobile equipment such as the status of oil, water, fuel, and/or tires while equipment is in operation, and report any abnormalities to the proper personnel. Required to maintain accurate receiving, inventory, and shipping records. Employee responsible for understanding the escalation policy, open issue log and communication board as it pertains to cost center specific detailed goals and objectives.
