Job Description
Yard Operator Position Summary The Yard Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient movement, storage, and organization of materials throughout the yard and warehouse. This position operates forklifts and other material handling equipment to load, unload, stage, and transport raw materials and finished products while maintaining accurate inventory and a clean, organized work environment. The Yard Operator plays an important role in supporting manufacturing operations by ensuring materials are available when needed, customer orders are prepared accurately, and the yard is maintained in a safe and efficient manner. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Operate forklifts and other material handling equipment safely and efficiently. Load and unload trucks in accordance with company procedures and customer requirements. Move raw materials, finished goods, and production supplies throughout the facility and yard. Stage materials for production and customer shipments. Organize and maintain inventory within the yard and warehouse. Assist with inventory counts and maintain accurate inventory records. Inspect incoming and outgoing shipments for accuracy and damage. Verify shipping documents and report discrepancies as needed. Maintain clean, organized, and safe storage areas throughout the yard and warehouse. Assist with receiving, stocking, and rotating inventory. Perform routine inspections of forklifts and report maintenance or repair needs. Follow all company safety policies and OSHA regulations. Work closely with production, shipping, receiving, and customer service to meet operational needs. Assist with general housekeeping of the yard, warehouse, and surrounding work areas. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications High school diploma or GED preferred. Previous forklift or material handling experience preferred. Ability to safely operate forklifts or obtain forklift certification. Previous experience in a manufacturing, warehouse, shipping, or distribution environment is preferred. Basic computer skills are a plus. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Ability to frequently lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds. Ability to safely operate forklifts and other material handling equipment. Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions. Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, high-visibility clothing, and steel-toe footwear. Ability to work overtime or flexible hours as business needs require.
