EDINBURGH, INDIANA
location. Thisposition oversees the daily operations of the log yard operations, management of a staff of 9 people, and overseeing the safety and efficiency of all log yard activities.
Schedule:
Monday- Friday, day shift. Competitive pay, with benefits available on day 1 that include a zero deductible, copay only medical plan. 401K matching, weekly pay, 10 paid holidays per calendar year, 3-weeks of PTO annually, training and advancement opportunities available.
Core Responsibilities Log Receiving and Sorting:
Assist in the receiving of all logs delivered to the facility, which includes remeasurement, grading and sorting. Log yard management data includes handheld computers and desk top based SAP for inventory information.
Equipment & Yard Flow:
Directing the movement of heavy machinery (ie: loaders, forwarders, trucks) and overseeing the maintenance of rolling stock and yard facilities.
Safety & Compliance:
Enforcing strict OSHA standards to minimize workplace hazards and promote a rigorous safety culture among staff.
Quality Control:
Ensuring logs are rotated properly to prevent decay and are sorted into the correct bins so that the mill receives the ideal product mix. Key Tools & Technology Managers increasingly rely on software solutions like SAP to track log flow, production requirements, and inventory age.
Typical Qualifications Experience:
Hands-on background in forestry, timber processing, or log yard operations. Knowledge of species identification and log measuring.
Certifications:
Knowledge of OSHA safety compliance is a plus.
Skills:
Leadership ability, equipment operation knowledge, and problem-solving abilities.
