Part-Time Newspaper Circulation Clerk / Route Manager Position Summary The Part-Time Circulation Clerk / Route Manager supports the daily operation of the newspaper's circulation department. This position performs administrative duties, coordinates delivery routes, assists independent contractors and carriers, responds to subscriber delivery concerns, and helps ensure newspapers are delivered accurately and on time. The ideal candidate is dependable, organized, customer-focused, and comfortable working independently in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Coordinate and monitor newspaper delivery routes to ensure timely and accurate delivery. Communicate route instructions, delivery updates, and service expectations to carriers and independent contractors. Assist with recruiting, onboarding, and training new carriers. Arrange route coverage when carriers are absent or routes become vacant. Deliver newspapers or assist with routes when emergency coverage is needed. Prepare route lists, delivery instructions, carrier paperwork, and other circulation materials. Enter and update subscriber, carrier, and route information in the circulation system. Respond to subscriber questions, complaints, missed-delivery reports, and service requests. Work with carriers to resolve recurring delivery issues and improve customer service. Perform other circulation and administrative duties as assigned. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. Strong organizational and time-management skills. Clear written and verbal communication skills. Ability to handle customer concerns professionally and courteously. Basic computer skills, including email, data entry, and Microsoft Office or similar programs. Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and make sound decisions under deadline pressure. Dependable attendance and punctuality. Valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and an acceptable driving record. Physical Requirements Ability to lift and carry newspaper bundles weighing up to 30-40 pounds. Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and perform repetitive tasks. Ability to load and unload newspapers and other delivery materials. Ability to drive in varying weather and road conditions when route assistance is required. Work Schedule This is a part-time position. Hours may include early mornings, weekends, holidays, and occasional additional hours based on publication schedules and route-coverage needs. Flexibility is required.
