Job Description

Job Summary The Yard Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operation, organization, safety, and efficiency of the equipment rental yard. This position ensures rental equipment is properly staged, inspected, cleaned, and ready for customers or scheduled deliveries. The Yard Manager coordinates with customer service, drivers, mechanics, and management to maintain equipment availability and ensure rentals are delivered and returned efficiently. Essential Functions Oversee daily activities and organization of the equipment rental yard. Supervise and provide direction to yard employees and other assigned personnel. Stage equipment for customer pickups and scheduled deliveries. Coordinate with customer service and operations staff regarding equipment reservations and availability. Inspect equipment before it leaves and when it returns to the rental yard. Document visible damage, missing components, fuel levels, hours, and equipment condition. Ensure returned equipment is cleaned, fueled, and prepared for the next rental. Identify equipment requiring maintenance or repair and coordinate with mechanics or service personnel. Maintain an organized yard with equipment stored in designated locations. Assist customers and drivers with loading and unloading equipment safely. Verify that equipment and attachments being released match the rental contract. Track equipment movement within the yard and help maintain accurate equipment availability records. Coordinate equipment pickups, deliveries, transfers, and returns with drivers and operations staff. Monitor equipment that is unavailable due to maintenance, damage, or repair. Perform routine yard inspections to identify safety hazards and operational concerns. Ensure employees follow company safety procedures and proper equipment-handling practices. Maintain cleanliness and organization of the yard, loading areas, and equipment storage areas. Monitor yard supplies, fuel, attachments, and commonly used equipment accessories. Assist with inventory counts and equipment audits as needed. Train yard employees on proper equipment handling, inspection, staging, and safety procedures. Address customer or operational concerns involving equipment condition or availability. Communicate equipment shortages, damages, maintenance concerns, and other issues to management. Support daily branch operations and perform additional duties as assigned.
Job Specifications Education:
High school diploma or equivalent required. Additional training in equipment operation, construction, logistics, or management is preferred.
Experience:
Previous experience in equipment rental, construction equipment, yard operations, warehouse operations, logistics, or a similar environment preferred. Previous leadership or supervisory experience is beneficial.
Knowledge and Skills:
Knowledge of construction and rental equipment; strong organizational and leadership skills; ability to prioritize equipment based on rental schedules; basic computer and recordkeeping skills; strong communication and problem-solving abilities; and the ability to safely operate or learn to operate various types of rental equipment.
License/Certifications:
Valid driver's license preferred or required depending on job responsibilities. Forklift, equipment-operation, or other safety certifications may be required based on company operations. Physical Requirements This position regularly requires standing, walking, bending, climbing, reaching, and working outdoors in varying weather conditions. The employee must be able to safely work around trucks, trailers, forklifts, skid steers, excavators, and other heavy equipment and lift or move equipment accessories and supplies as required. From $24.00 per hour Expected hours: 40.0 per week
