Job Description
Job Summary The Metal Recycling Yard Manager oversees the daily operations of a metal recycling facility, ensuring safe, efficient, and environmentally compliant processing of ferrous and non-ferrous metals. This role is responsible for supervising employees, managing inventory, coordinating shipments, maintaining equipment, and delivering excellent customer service while meeting production and profitability goals. Key Responsibilities
- Manage all daily yard operations, including receiving, sorting, processing, and shipping scrap metal.
- Supervise, train, schedule, and evaluate yard personnel, equipment operators, and support staff.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, state, and local environmental and safety regulations.
- Conduct regular safety meetings and enforce company safety policies.
- Monitor inventory levels and maintain accurate records of incoming and outgoing materials.
- Coordinate transportation, shipping, and receiving activities with customers and vendors.
- Inspect materials for quality and proper classification.
- Oversee operation and maintenance of heavy equipment, including loaders, excavators, forklifts, balers, and shears.
- Work with buyers and sales personnel to maximize the value of recycled materials.
- Investigate and resolve customer concerns professionally.
- Prepare operational reports, production data, and performance metrics.
- Manage operating budgets and control labor and equipment costs.
- Ensure the yard remains organized, clean, and environmentally compliant.
- Assist with hiring, disciplinary actions, and employee performance evaluations. Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; associate's or bachelor's degree preferred.
- 3-5+ years of experience in metal recycling, scrap processing, manufacturing, or industrial operations.
- Previous supervisory or management experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of ferrous and non-ferrous metals.
- Familiarity with heavy equipment operation and maintenance.
- Working knowledge of OSHA safety standards and environmental regulations.
- Valid driver's license (CDL preferred but not required). Required Skills
