Material Management Specialist

Athens, GA Position Purpose:
The Material Management Specialist will work in the Main OR within St. Mary's Hospital in Athens GA What you will do: Coordinate work processes for surgical services, which includes the acquisition, distribution, and the processing of supplies, equipment, instruments and services for the system. Complies with hospital policies an supports the mission and values of the hospital.
PLANNING, ORGANIZING AND DECISION MAKING
Assures that all purchase requests are correct and have the proper signatures. Orders all non-stock/stock products in a timely manner; monitors all back
  • orders to prevent stock outs.
Negotiates the best price on all purchase requests; utilizes GPO contracts when possible with the assist of Project Manager. Assists with and researches invoice errors when requested by Accounts Payable. Offers suggestions for improvement and contributes to the surgical Services Team. Assists with and provides business office with proper invoices for OR, implants and supplies in a timely and accurate manner.
FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY
Coordinates work processes for material management specialist. Assists with and facilitates training program for staff. Minimizes expenditures by identifying cost effective alternatives for purchasing equipment and supplies. Assists with and utilizes MM system to input stock/ non
  • stock products. Interviews vendor reps; introduces new product information to departments. Maintains files in an up-to-date orderly fashion. Researches price discrepancies, negotiates best pricing for all purchases as well as follow up on all back
  • orders.
Responsible for and assists with inventory control program for Material/ Central Services. Assists with and evaluates the effectiveness of cost containment program and inventory control as evidenced by monthly budget reports. Collaborates with Project Manager in obtaining product information and acquisition of supplies. Assists with and responsible for bill-only/s for all implant supplies.
What you will need:
licensure/certification/registration: n/a
Education:
surgical technologist with two years supervisory experience in health care related field preferred. basic knowledge in computers required.
Experience:
must have two years' experience in material/central processing functions, preferably in medical field.
Special qualifications:
a working knowledge of basic business and negotiation skills, together with excellent communication skills, both oral and written. good telephone and interpersonal skills.
