Materials Manager
Job Description
Materials Manager Paducah & Louisville Railway, Inc. — Paducah, KY Paducah & Louisville Railway, Inc. (P&L Railway) is seeking an experienced Materials Manager to lead procurement, inventory control, and materials logistics supporting our track, locomotive, rail car, signal, and communications operations. This is a hands-on management role for someone who understands supply chain fundamentals and thrives in a fast-paced, safety-focused environment.
Duties:
Manage procurement of railroad materials — track, locomotive, rail car, signal, communications, PPE, general supplies, and other purchases supporting multiple locations and operational needs Build and maintain strong vendor relationships; communicate on pricing, availability, and order status, and expedite materials as needed to meet operational deadlines Oversee shipping and receiving, including scheduling deliveries and preparing materials for shipment Direct stocking of inventory and internal delivery of supplies Manage inventory control: reorder points, cycle counts, disposal review, and processing material issues Supervise materials personnel and department operations in accordance with FRA, AAR, and Company rules, policies, and regulations Develop and maintain consignment schedules Maintain accurate procurement records and documentation Travel occasionally to offsite locations to support inventory control activitiesQualifications:
Solid understanding of supply chain management principles — inventory management, EOQ, inventory optimization, logistics management, quality control, preferred vendor evaluation, and procure-to-pay processes Working knowledge of inventory control systems, shipping/receiving procedures, and carrier procedures Strong computer and negotiation skills Ability to read and interpret part numbers, diagrams, and technical specifications Ability to prioritize multiple requests and meet deadlines in a self-directed environment Comfortable working with and supervising a team Ability to safely operate a forklift Valid driver's license, with the ability to safely operate and maneuver a 16' company trailer and pickup truck Ability to pass a DOT physical to operate the Materials one-ton truck Ability to lift up to 50-100 lbs. occasionally Education & Experience Associate Degree in Business Management (or related field) and 1-3 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, preferred.Pay:
