Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY
The Operations Manager will be responsible for the daily operations, efficiency, and overall profitability of the trucking and freight transportation division. The qualified candidate will look for new opportunities to further grow the operation, developing and implementing programs to ensure efficient and cost-effective operations as well as identifying and executing innovative plans to increase company utilization and revenue. The Operations Manager provides hands-on-leadership who understands the trucking industry, and direction to dispatch staff, company drivers, to ensure compliance with transportation regulations, coordinate with internal teams and drivers, and implement strategies to improve efficiency and customer satisfaction.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform day-to-day accounting tasks and maintain the accuracy and efficiency of the department. The duties include, but are not limited to the following: 1. Oversee daily operations of a company-owned trucking fleet 2. Manage, coach, and hold drivers accountable for performance and safety 3. Monitor driver productivity, utilization, service, and compliance 4. Coordinate dispatch, routing, scheduling, and equipment availability 5. Work closely with fleet maintenance to minimize downtime 6. Monitor fuel usage, operating costs, miles, revenue, and profitability 7. Identify opportunities to improve fleet efficiency and reduce operating expenses 8. Ensure customer commitments and delivery schedules are met 9. Address service issues and resolve operational problems quickly 10. Monitor driver hours-of-service and DOT compliance 11. Assist with recruiting, onboarding, training, and retention of drivers 12. Conduct regular performance reviews with drivers and operations personnel 13. Establish and maintain operational procedures and accountability standards 14. Work with management to develop strategies to increase fleet profitability 15. Analyze weekly and monthly operational KPIs 16. Maintain strong communication between drivers, dispatch, maintenance, customers, and management
REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS
1. 3+ years of work experience in transportation and third-party logistics, operations, and/or customer-facing role. 2. 5 years of experience in leadership/management role in managing drivers and/or a trucking fleet. 3. Solid knowledge of transportation and logistics principles, economics, and supply chain network behavior. (DOT and FMCSA regulations) 4. Outstanding leadership abilities include problem solving, interpersonal communications, goal orientation, teaching/coaching, self-discipline, and systemic thinking. 5. Excellent communications skills; presentation, interpersonal, verbal and written. 6. Excellent computer, organizational and time management skills. 7. Customer service/interaction skills and experience. 8. Problem solving skills; ability to use good business judgment and make decisions. 9. Flexibility to adapt to a fast paced and changing environment. 10. Willingness to travel.
