Position Overview The Materials Planning and Logistics Manager plays a critical role in ensuring the efficient flow of materials and finished products throughout the plant's supply chain. Reporting directly to the General Manager, this position is responsible for overseeing materials planning, inventory management, production scheduling, and logistics operations. At present, the role is supported by a temporary solution. While recruitment for this position is ongoing, the hiring timeline is flexible, allowing us to identify the right long-term candidate to support operational excellence and sustainable growth. The successful candidate will drive efficiency, cost control, and on-time delivery while ensuring compliance with safety, quality, and operational standards. Key Responsibilities Materials Planning Develop and implement materials planning strategies aligned with production schedules and customer requirements. Forecast material requirements based on sales projections, production demand, and inventory targets. Procurement & Supplier Management Source, negotiate, and manage suppliers for raw materials, components, and consumables. Establish and maintain strong vendor relationships, monitor supplier performance, and address delivery or quality issues. Inventory Control Oversee inventory levels of raw materials, work-in-progress, and finished goods. Implement cycle counts, monitor stock movements, and minimize excess or obsolete inventory. Production Scheduling Collaborate closely with production teams to develop and adjust production schedules based on material availability, capacity constraints, and customer deadlines. Logistics & Distribution Manage inbound and outbound logistics, including shipping, receiving, warehousing, and transportation activities. Optimize freight costs and delivery performance. Process Improvement Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance supply chain efficiency, reduce lead times, and control costs. Team Leadership Lead, train, and develop materials and logistics team members. Foster a culture of safety, accountability, quality, and continuous improvement. Reporting & Analysis Prepare and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) such as inventory turnover, supplier performance, and on-time delivery. Present insights and recommendations to the General Manager. Compliance Ensure all materials handling, storage, and transportation activities comply with health, safety, and environmental regulations. Qualifications & Skills Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience. Minimum of 5 years of experience in materials planning, logistics, or supply chain management, preferably within a metal fabrication or manufacturing environment. Strong knowledge of inventory management practices, ERP/MRP systems, and lean manufacturing principles. Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Proven experience in supplier negotiation and relationship management. Strong communication and leadership skills, with demonstrated experience managing teams. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; experience with data analysis and reporting tools is an asset.
