  • Full-time Job Summary The Materials Manager is responsible for overseeing and coordinating all materials management activities across Air-tow Trailers' California and Ohio manufacturing facilities.
This role ensures that raw materials, components, and finished goods are procured, stored, and distributed efficiently to support production schedules, minimize cost, and maintain optimal inventory levels. The Materials Manager serves as the central point of contact for supply chain operations across both locations and works cross-functionally with production, engineering, purchasing, and logistics teams. This role will also be critical in fully implementing the MRP process and operating materials ordering through MRP using NetSuite as a tool. Key Responsibilities Team Leadership Supervise and develop materials team members at both California and Ohio locations, including warehouse staff, receiving clerks, and purchasing coordinators. Set performance goals Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the materials function. Coordinate staffing and workload planning Inventory & Materials Planning Develop and maintain inventory management systems and policies for both the California and Ohio facilities. Monitor stock levels, reorder points, and lead times to prevent production disruptions caused by material shortages. Analyze demand forecasts and coordinate with production planning to align material availability with manufacturing schedules. Conduct regular cycle counts and physical inventories; investigate and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner. Implement and oversee lean inventory practices where applicable. Reporting & Cost Management Track and report on key materials KPIs including inventory turns, fill rates, purchase price variance, and carrying costs. Develop and manage the materials department budget; identify and implement cost-reduction opportunities. Present regular updates to Operations leadership on materials performance, risks, and improvement initiatives. Support annual budgeting and capital planning processes related to inventory and materials management. Procurement & Vendor Relations Source, qualify, and manage supplier relationships for materials and components used in trailer manufacturing. Negotiate pricing, terms, and supply agreements with vendors to ensure competitive costs and reliable delivery. Evaluate supplier performance and lead continuous improvement initiatives to reduce lead times and improve quality. Collaborate with the purchasing team to issue purchase orders and resolve invoice discrepancies. Identify and qualify secondary/backup suppliers to reduce single-source risk. Logistics and Warehousing Oversee inbound and outbound logistics, including freight carrier selection, routing, and cost optimization. Manage warehouse layout, storage practices, and material handling procedures to ensure safety and efficiency. Ensure compliance with shipping regulations, including hazardous materials handling where applicable. Maintain accurate records in the ERP/MRP system for all material receipts, transfers, and consumption. Multi-Site Coordination Serve as the primary liaison between the California and Ohio facilities for all materials-related matters. Establish standardized materials management procedures across both locations while accommodating site-specific needs. Coordinate inter-facility material transfers to balance inventory and respond to production demand shifts. Travel occasionally between facilities to maintain strong relationships and ensure consistent operational standards.
