Job Description

Waste Services

VLS Waste Services provides customized waste processing solutions for hazardous and non-hazardous industrial and commercial waste, including landfill diversion and sustainability programs, solidification of liquid waste, recycling, wastewater treatment, and waste sequestration.

Railcar Services

VLS Railcar Cleaning and Repair Services division provides specialty cleaning services for difficult-to-clean products, including chemicals, hardened materials, and pressurized gases, and comprehensive repair services for certified full-service repairs, tank car qualifications, and maintenance.

Marine Services

VLS Marine Services division offers state-of-the-art barge cleaning, repair, and gas-free facilities for various chemical solvents and downstream petroleum products. VLS is a recognized leader in sustainability space, with our offerings in Rail, Marine and Waste, we work with leading companies in Chemical, Petrochemical, Automotive, Manufacturing, Pharmaceutical, Electronics, and other industries. The Logistics Manager is responsible for coordinating and managing logistics activities to support safe, appropriate, and cost-effective transportation and operational requirements. The position works closely with VLS Facility Managers, the Sales team, Dispatch, Maintenance, third-party transporters, Accounts Payable, and other internal and external stakeholders. The Logistics Manager works independently to coordinate transportation needs, monitor logistics costs and budgets, support DOT and FMCSA compliance, improve logistics efficiencies, and resolve operational issues. This position has no direct reports and is not responsible for supervising employees, managing Account Specialists, or overseeing an Accounts Receivable function.

JOB DUTIES
Primary Responsibilities:

Coordinate safe, appropriate, and cost-effective logistics operations for assigned regions and facilities.

Evaluate and assist VLS Facility Managers and the Sales team with transportation-related KPIs and logistics requirements.

Manage third-party transporter relationships, including obtaining and evaluating transportation quotes for new jobs.

Coordinate transportation requirements and develop an efficient logistics model to support dispatching and maximize logistics efficiencies.

Identify opportunities to improve logistics processes, reduce transportation costs, and improve operational efficiency.

Maintain a safe work environment by following established Company policies, procedures, and safety requirements.

Transportation & Dispatch Coordination:

Coordinate with 3PL to ensure logistics are appropriately assigned to loads and transportation requirements are met.

Monitor transportation activity and identify opportunities to reduce cost and improve fleet utilization.

Coordinate with 3PL regarding scheduling, pricing, service issues, and operational requirements.

Support transportation planning for current operations and future business needs

Maintenance Coordination:

Work with the Maintenance team to ensure repairs are addressed in a timely and cost-effective manner.

Monitor maintenance-related logistics needs and communicate operational impacts to appropriate stakeholders.

Support planning for future asset requirements and purchases based on operational needs.

Compliance & Safety:

Support compliance with applicable DOT and FMCSA requirements related to logistics and transportation.

Coordinate and maintain applicable compliance requirements, including quarterly drug testing, IFTA reports, IRP licenses, UCR filings, hazardous material permits, accident registers, and driver logs, as assigned.

Promote safe transportation practices and communicate safety or compliance concerns promptly.

Participate in the 24-Hour Emergency On-Call rotation and serve as secondary backup as required.

Financial & Administrative Responsibilities:
  • Monitor purchase orders, update them as needed, and monitor monthly spending against budgets.
  • Review and report significant spending anomalies or variances.
  • Work with Accounts Payable by reviewing vendor bills for accuracy and comparing them with purchase orders before approval for processing.

• Build monthly logistics cost allocation data for the Southeast and Central regions.

Forecast logistics requirements, assist with annual budgeting, schedule expenditures, and analyze budget variances.

Monitor 3PL costs and identify opportunities for cost control.

Business & Operational Support:

Plan and evaluate future logistics growth, transportation requirements, and asset purchases.

Provide logistics support to Facility Managers and the Sales team for customer and operational requirements.

Communicate effectively with internal departments, customers, carriers, vendors, and other stakeholders.

Support process improvements that increase logistics efficiency, service quality, and cost effectiveness.

Undertake additional duties assigned by management in support of organizational and business objectives.

REQUIREMENTS

High school diploma or equivalent

Minimum 3 years of business experience in 2 of the following logistics categories. Trucking, Rail, Barge and Storage Tanks.

Minimum 3 years of business process improvement

Minimum 3 years of creating processes, procedures and standardization

Minimum 3 years of customer service experience

Experience with invoice processing and problem resolution

Experience working with an ERP system

Excellent interpersonal skills

Ability to take initiative, prioritize, and work several issues simultaneously

Ability to take initiative and perform self-directed workload Preferred Bachelor's degree

Accounts Receivable experience Expected Hours of Work Able to work an agreed upon standard schedule and additional hours as job duties demand Travel Must have a current, valid driver's license

Able to be insurable under our company's liability insurance policy

30% to 40% out-of-town travel required.
