- GSC Logistics is a contractor to FedEx providing pick-up and delivery services to a select group of zip codes in the Birmingham Alabama area.
Duties:
- Travel to the FedEx Station each morning between 7:00 and 8:00 to oversee and participate in the final loading of trucks and the dispatch of drivers.
- Ensure the dispatch of drivers each day as early as possible but not later than 9:30 am.
- Meet with FedEx Station Management peridically to discuss issues, concerns, performance, etc.
- After dispatch, travel to a home office to oversee and monitor driver performance throughout the day using tools like Ground Cloud or DSW. Proactively contact drivers who are having observed issues to assist and troubleshoot. Be available throughout the day for phone calls from drivers, FedEx Management or company management to assist with resolving issues and to trouble shoot problems.
- Periodically, drive a route and perform deliveries/pick-ups as may be required to support the operational plan or as a contingency in the case of a staffing problem or other issue that affects our ability to deliver packages.
- The Operations Manager/BC must ensure the company meets its contractual obligations to FedEx each day which includes delivering all packages, proper coding of un-deliverable packages, making all assigned pick-ups in the designated pick-up windows, safe operation of of the vehicles and drivers completing all required tasks including PPOD, following delivery instructions, package placement, delivering to the proper location, proper handling of hazmat, wearing their uniforms and providing excellent customer service.
- Create daily route plans in a system called DRO to organize how the service area will be covered including how many routes will be run each day, which sections of the service area each route will cover, which truck will be assigned to a work area, which route and work area each driver will be assigned to and how each truck will be loaded.
- Provide a daily safety message to drivers. Oversee, the company safety program in coordination with the company's safety program vendor.
- Communicate effectively with all team members, providing clear instructions and feedback.
- Oversee and coordinate maintenance for the company's fleet of delivery vehicles.
- Perform additional tasks as required by company management or FedEx from time to time.
Experience:
- Proven experience as an Operations Manager/Business Contact (BC) or in a related role.
- Commercial driving experience, with a valid driver's license and a clean driving record. FedEx delivery driving experience is preferred.
- Experience with delivery operations. FedEx experience is preferred.
- Experience with customer service, with a strong focus on providing excellent customer service.
- Experience with moving and loading/unloading goods.
- Experience with courier services, with a strong focus on timely and accurate delivery.
- Experience with leading and motivationg a team.
- Experience recruting delivery drivers.
Skills:
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
- Experience with logistics management software and other relevant technologies.
- Ability to lift and move heavy objects, with a strong focus on safety.
- Commercial driving skills, including the ability to operate a van or box truck.
- Strong customer service skills, with the ability to provide excellent service to customers.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with a strong focus on efficiency and productivity.
