Job Description
Job Summary We are seeking a dedicated and responsible Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Driver to join our transportation team. In this vital role, you will operate various types of commercial vehicles to safely transport passengers, including students, seniors, and community members, ensuring timely and secure arrivals. Duties Safely operate school buses, transit buses, or paratransit vehicles in accordance with state and local transportation laws and company policies. Assist passengers with wheelchair boarding, disembarking, and provide wheelchair assistance as needed. Follow all traffic laws, vehicle codes, and transportation safety regulations during daily routes. Respond quickly to traffic changes or emergencies with appropriate driving techniques such as emergency stop procedures or defensive driving. Ensure passenger safety by managing behavior, enforcing student discipline policies, and providing clear communication throughout the trip. Conduct pre-trip inspections of vehicles to identify maintenance needs or safety issues before each route. Provide excellent customer service by addressing passenger questions or concerns professionally and courteously. Maintain accurate logs of trips, incidents, and vehicle inspections; complete shift reports as required. Assist with heavy lifting when necessary for loading or unloading equipment or supplies related to transportation services. Stay informed about school policies, emergency response procedures for transportation, and updates on traffic laws to ensure compliance at all times. Skills Proven experience in bus driving, school bus operation, or transit bus operation with a valid CDL license. Strong knowledge of traffic laws, vehicle codes, and transportation safety regulations. Excellent communication skills in English; multilingual abilities such as bilingual skills are a plus. Ability to respond quickly and effectively to traffic changes or emergencies using defensive driving techniques. Experience working with children or seniors; ability to manage student discipline and behavior effectively. Knowledge of emergency response procedures for transportation incidents including CPR and first aid certification (preferred). Skilled in customer service with a friendly attitude toward passengers of all ages. Capable of heavy lifting and performing physical tasks required for vehicle maintenance or loading activities. Familiarity with school policy knowledge, behavior management strategies, and student discipline protocols. Strong writing skills for completing reports accurately; excellent communication skills for interacting with passengers and team members.
