This vital role involves operating various types of vehicles—including school buses, transit buses, and paratransit vans—while adhering to strict safety standards and providing exceptional customer service. Duties Safely operate commercial vehicles such as school buses, transit buses, and wheelchair-accessible vans in accordance with traffic laws and transportation safety regulations. Transport passengers—including students, seniors, and individuals with disabilities—while ensuring their safety and comfort at all times. Assist passengers with boarding and disembarking, providing wheelchair assistance and behavior management as needed. Follow emergency response procedures for transportation incidents, including CPR, first aid, emergency stop procedures, and vehicle codes. Maintain clear communication with dispatchers and passengers using effective English or multilingual communication skills to respond quickly to traffic changes or passenger needs. Conduct pre-trip inspections to verify vehicle safety, report any mechanical issues promptly, and perform heavy lifting when necessary for vehicle checks or passenger assistance. Uphold student discipline policies and enforce school or transit policies to ensure a safe environment onboard. Experience Valid commercial driver's license (CDL) with appropriate endorsements for passenger transport and wheelchair assistance. Proven experience driving buses or paratransit vehicles in compliance with state and local commercial driving laws. Knowledge of traffic laws, vehicle codes, transportation safety regulations, and emergency response procedures relevant to passenger transportation. Demonstrated ability to manage passenger behavior effectively while maintaining a positive attitude. Experience working with children or senior populations is highly desirable. Strong communication skills in English; bilingual abilities are a plus for serving diverse communities. Ability to perform quick responses to traffic changes and adapt driving accordingly while ensuring passenger safety at all times.
