  • Republicans Washington, District of Columbia Senator Ted Cruz seeks a surface transportation policy director to join the Republican staff of the Senate Commerce Committee.
The portfolio will consist of issues before the U.S. Department of Transportation and the National Transportation Safety Board. Qualified applicants must have experience drafting and negotiating legislation, interfacing with federal agencies, and the workings of Congress. Key responsibilities include leading and managing a small team of professional staff; developing legislation; conducting oversight of agencies and nominations under the Committee's jurisdiction; preparing hearings, drafting memos and talking points; and generally advising the Chairman. Duties also include coordinating and collaborating with other committees and congressional staff, executive branch agencies, industry, and trade associations. Successful candidates will possess exceptional writing skills, discretion and political judgment, have strong attention to detail, an excellent work ethic, and clear and concise communication abilities. This position requires senior-level legislative and policy experience. Previous Hill and relevant committee experience is also required.
