POSITION SUMMARY
The Transportation Manager is responsible for the overall management and performance of the company's transportation operations. This position oversees a team of approximately 30 drivers and is responsible for budget management, fleet management, driver personnel, safety compliance, route optimization, technology, and customer service. The ideal candidate is a hands-on, analytical leader who can balance operational efficiency with safety, cost control, employee performance, and exceptional customer service.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Budget Management
- Develop, monitor, and manage the transportation department budget.
- Analyze fuel, maintenance, labor, equipment, and other transportation-related expenses.
- Identify opportunities to reduce operating costs while maintaining safety and service standards.
- Use route optimization and fleet performance data to support budget decisions.
- Monitor department performance and establish measurable operational goals. Fleet Management
- Oversee the company's transportation fleet to ensure vehicles are safe, reliable, properly maintained, and efficiently utilized.
- Coordinate preventive maintenance, repairs, inspections, and other fleet requirements.
- Monitor vehicle utilization, mileage, fuel consumption, maintenance costs, and overall fleet performance.
- Evaluate fleet needs and assist with vehicle and equipment replacement planning.
- Utilize Samsara Fleet Manager and other technology to monitor and improve fleet performance. Driver Personnel Management
- Directly manage approximately 30 drivers.
- Establish expectations for performance, safety, attendance, customer service, and compliance.
- Coach, develop, and hold drivers accountable for performance.
- Develop staffing and scheduling plans to meet transportation demands. Safety & Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure compliance with applicable DOT and OSHA regulations, company policies, and transportation safety requirements.
- Maintain required driver, vehicle, inspection, and compliance documentation.
- Monitor driver safety performance and implement corrective action when necessary.
- Stay current on changes to applicable DOT requirements and transportation regulations. Route Optimization & Operational Efficiency
- Manage and continuously improve delivery routes to maximize efficiency and control transportation costs.
- Utilize route optimization software to improve driver productivity, mileage, delivery schedules, fuel efficiency, and fleet utilization.
- Analyze route performance and identify opportunities to streamline operations.
- Balance route efficiency with customer delivery requirements and service expectations.
- Use route optimization to directly support budget management and fleet management objectives.
- Identify and implement process improvements that reduce unnecessary mileage, downtime, and operating costs.
- Continuously evaluate transportation workflows and develop practical solutions to improve efficiency.
Technology & Systems Manage and effectively utilize transportation technology, including: o Route optimization software o Samsara Fleet Manager o Customer communication platforms o Fleet tracking and reporting systems Monitor technology-generated data to improve transportation performance. Address transportation-related customer concerns promptly and professionally.
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
- Previous management experience in transportation, fleet operations, logistics, distribution, or a related field.
- Experience managing a team of drivers or transportation personnel; experience managing approximately 30 drivers preferred.
- Strong understanding of transportation operations, fleet management, and route optimization.
- Working knowledge of DOT and OSHA regulations.
- Experience with Samsara Fleet Manager or similar technology preferred.
- Strong budget management, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced distribution environment.
- Able to balance cost control, operational efficiency, safety, and customer satisfaction.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's degree in Transportation, Logistics, Business Administration, Operations Management, or a related field preferred.
- Equivalent combination of education and relevant transportation management experience may be considered.

SCHEDULE
The general schedule is Monday through Friday, with flexibility required based on business needs. The Transportation Manager must be available for occasional evening and weekend on-call support to address time-sensitive situations such as equipment breakdowns, weather emergencies, and other transportation-related issues.
Pay:
Up to $120,000.00 per year
