Responsibilities Safely operate commercial vehicles such as school buses, transit buses, and paratransit vans in compliance with all transportation safety regulations and vehicle codes. Transport passengers—including students, seniors, and individuals with disabilities—while ensuring their safety and comfort at all times. Assist passengers with wheelchair assistance and behavior management as needed, maintaining a respectful and welcoming environment. Follow traffic laws diligently, respond quickly to traffic changes, and execute emergency stop procedures when necessary to prevent accidents. Conduct pre-trip inspections of vehicles to ensure proper functioning and report any mechanical issues promptly. Provide excellent customer service by communicating clearly with passengers, addressing their needs, and ensuring a positive experience. Maintain accurate logs of trips, passenger counts, safety checks, and incident reports in accordance with state and local laws. Requirements Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements for bus driving and passenger transport. Proven experience working with children or seniors in transportation settings is highly preferred. Knowledge of transportation safety regulations, traffic laws, vehicle codes, and emergency response procedures for transportation. Ability to perform heavy lifting when assisting passengers or handling equipment. Strong communication skills in English; multilingual abilities are a plus for serving diverse communities. Familiarity with student discipline policies and behavior management techniques. CPR certification and first aid training are highly desirable; willingness to obtain if not already certified. Experience in school bus driving, transit bus operation, or paratransit services is advantageous. Ability to respond swiftly to traffic changes and emergency situations while maintaining composure.
