This role offers an exciting opportunity to operate various vehicles—including buses, vans, and paratransit vehicles—while providing exceptional customer service to diverse passenger groups. Your expertise in traffic laws, safety regulations, and emergency procedures will be vital in delivering a smooth and secure experience for all riders. Duties Safely operate commercial vehicles such as school buses, transit buses, vans, and paratransit vehicles in accordance with state and local laws. Transport passengers—including students, seniors, and individuals with disabilities—while ensuring their safety and comfort at all times. Assist passengers with wheelchair boarding and disembarking, providing necessary wheelchair assistance with care and professionalism. Follow traffic laws, vehicle codes, and transportation safety regulations diligently to maintain compliance and prevent accidents. Respond quickly to traffic changes or road hazards by adjusting routes or driving behavior to ensure timely arrivals. Communicate effectively with passengers using clear English or multilingual skills; manage passenger behavior and enforce school or transit policies as needed. Conduct vehicle inspections before each trip; perform emergency stop procedures and respond appropriately to incidents or emergencies using CPR or first aid skills when necessary. Maintain accurate logs of trips, mileage, fuel consumption, and incident reports; complete shift reports thoroughly. Uphold passenger safety standards by adhering to emergency response procedures for transportation incidents and ensuring vehicle cleanliness and readiness. Experience Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements for passenger transport (e.g., school bus endorsement). Proven experience operating buses, vans, or paratransit vehicles in a professional setting. Knowledge of traffic laws, vehicle codes, transportation safety regulations, and emergency response procedures related to commercial driving. Experience working with children or seniors is highly desirable; familiarity with student discipline policies is a plus. Strong communication skills in English; multilingual abilities are an advantage for serving diverse communities. Ability to perform heavy lifting when necessary for vehicle maintenance or passenger assistance. Demonstrated ability to respond quickly to traffic changes and manage behavior effectively in a customer service environment. Basic writing skills for completing logs, reports, and incident documentation accurately.
