Job Description

Overview We are seeking a dedicated and energetic Before and After-School Driver to ensure the safe and reliable transportation of students to and from school and extracurricular activities. This vital role involves operating various types of vehicles, including school buses, vans, and paratransit vehicles, while maintaining a focus on passenger safety, customer service, and adherence to traffic laws. The ideal candidate will be passionate about working with children, possess excellent communication skills, and demonstrate a strong commitment to transportation safety regulations. Duties Safely operate vans, or transit vehicles to transport students before and after school according to established schedules. Follow all traffic laws, vehicle codes, and transportation safety regulations to ensure passenger safety at all times. Assist students with boarding and exiting vehicles, including providing wheelchair assistance when necessary. Maintain discipline and manage student behavior during transit in accordance with school policies. Respond quickly and appropriately to traffic changes, road conditions, or emergencies to ensure timely arrivals and departures. Conduct vehicle inspections before each trip, checking for mechanical issues or safety concerns, and report any problems promptly. Follow emergency response procedures for transportation incidents and perform emergency stop procedures if required. Experience Proven experience driving buses, vans, or other commercial vehicles, preferably within a school or transit environment. Valid driver's license with appropriate endorsements for school bus driving or commercial driving; knowledge of state and local commercial driving laws. Demonstrated understanding of transportation safety regulations, traffic laws, and vehicle codes. Experience working with children or in a customer service role that requires patience, communication skills, and behavior management. Knowledge of emergency response procedures related to transportation incidents such as CPR certification or first aid training is highly desirable. Ability to lift heavy objects safely when assisting with student mobility devices or luggage; familiarity with wheelchair assistance protocols is a plus. Strong written communication skills for completing reports, logs, and incident documentation accurately. Join us in providing safe, reliable transportation that supports our community's children!
