Responsibilities Manage daily transportation scheduling for special education students, ensuring timely pickups and drop-offs in accordance with individualized education plans (IEPs). Utilize transportation management systems and vehicle dispatch software to coordinate routes, monitor vehicle locations via GPS, and optimize logistics efficiency. Communicate effectively with drivers, school staff, parents, and external vendors through multi-line phone systems and internal communication channels to resolve issues promptly. Ensure compliance with DOT (Department of Transportation) regulations, safety standards, and internal policies related to road transportation operations. Oversee fleet management activities including vehicle maintenance scheduling, supply chain coordination for transportation supplies, and tracking freight or shipping & receiving needs. Enter data accurately into software systems to maintain records of routes, incidents, and operational metrics. Analyze transportation data to identify opportunities for process improvements, cost savings, or service enhancements while maintaining high customer service standards. Driving a school bus or van if and when needed. Skills Strong knowledge of GIS (Geographic Information Systems), GPS technology, and transportation planning principles. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Word, and Outlook; experience with vehicle dispatch software and transportation management systems is preferred. Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities efficiently in a fast-paced environment. Effective communication skills for phone call management, internal collaboration, and customer service interactions. Familiarity with road transportation operations, fleet management practices, and logistics coordination within a 3PL (third-party logistics) environment. Knowledge of DOT regulations related to school bus operations and vehicle safety standards. Experience with data entry, analysis skills for operational reporting, and typing accuracy for documentation purposes. Ability to handle multi-line phone systems professionally using proper phone etiquette while managing dispatching tasks seamlessly.
