Job Title:
Transportation Coordinator Job Overview:
A Transportation Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and managing the transportation and logistics activities of an organization. This role involves planning and optimizing transportation routes, scheduling shipments, and ensuring the efficient movement of goods while meeting customer needs and cost objectives.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in logistics, supply chain management, business, or a related field, or equivalent work experience. Proven experience in transportation coordination or logistics roles. Strong knowledge of transportation regulations, routes, and industry best practices. Proficiency in transportation management systems (TMS), logistics software, and Microsoft Office applications. Excellent organizational and time management skills. Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities. Effective communication and interpersonal skills for collaboration with internal teams, vendors, carriers, and customers. Negotiation skills for vendor and carrier agreements. Ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic transportation environment. Knowledge of safety practices and regulations in transportation.
Key Responsibilities:
Route Planning and Optimization:
Plan and optimize transportation routes to ensure efficient and cost-effective delivery of goods. Consider factors such as distance, delivery windows, vehicle capacity, and fuel efficiency when planning routes. Minimize empty backhauls and optimize load utilization.
Shipment Scheduling:
Schedule and coordinate shipments, including pickups, deliveries, and transfers. Ensure that shipments are dispatched and arrive on time. Communicate with drivers and carriers to confirm schedules and address any delays or issues.
Carrier and Vendor Coordination:
Collaborate with carriers, freight forwarders, and third-party logistics providers to arrange transportation services. Negotiate rates and contracts with transportation vendors. Maintain relationships with transportation partners and ensure compliance with service agreements.
Documentation and Compliance:
Prepare and manage transportation documents, including bills of lading, shipping manifests, and customs documentation. Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, including safety, environmental, and customs requirements. Stay updated on transportation regulations and industry best practices.
Inventory and Warehouse Management:
Coordinate the movement of goods between warehouses, distribution centers, and retail locations. Manage inventory levels to optimize stock rotation and minimize carrying costs. Collaborate with inventory and warehouse teams to ensure accurate tracking and reporting.
Cost Management:
Monitor transportation costs and identify opportunities for cost reduction and efficiency improvement. Track and analyze transportation expenses, fuel costs, and other relevant metrics. Develop and manage transportation budgets.
Customer Service:
Provide excellent customer service by addressing customer inquiries and resolving transportation-related issues. Communicate shipment status and expected delivery times to customers and stakeholders. Collaborate with sales and customer service teams to meet customer delivery expectations.
Technology and Systems:
Utilize transportation management systems (TMS) and logistics software to plan and track shipments. Implement technology solutions to enhance transportation efficiency, visibility, and reporting.
Emergency Response:
Develop and implement contingency plans for unforeseen transportation disruptions, such as weather-related issues or accidents. Coordinate emergency responses to minimize disruptions and ensure the safety of drivers and cargo.
Pay:
$24.22 - $28.00 per hour Expected hours: 40.0 per week
