Job Description

Director of Transportation Skilled Nursing Facility -
Ohio Position Summary:
The Director of Transportation is responsible for coordinating and managing all transportation services for residents within the skilled nursing facility. This position ensures residents have safe, reliable, and timely transportation to medical appointments, therapy services, dialysis, specialist visits, and other approved outings. The Director of Transportation will oversee scheduling, insurance transportation coordination, vehicle safety, and transportation operations while providing excellent customer service to residents, families, and healthcare providers.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Coordinate and manage all resident transportation needs, including medical appointments, outpatient services, dialysis, therapy, and specialty appointments. Schedule transportation appointments with outside providers, clinics, hospitals, and medical offices. Coordinate transportation benefits through Medicare Advantage Plans, Medicaid Managed Care Plans, insurance companies, and transportation vendors. Verify insurance transportation eligibility and obtain required authorizations prior to appointments. Communicate with insurance plans regarding covered transportation services and required documentation. Maintain an organized transportation calendar to ensure appointments are scheduled appropriately and transportation coverage is available. Drive facility transportation vehicles, including wheelchair-accessible vans, safely and professionally. Assist residents with entering and exiting the vehicle while maintaining resident dignity, safety, and comfort. Ensure proper use of wheelchair restraints, safety equipment, and transportation procedures. Perform routine vehicle inspections and report maintenance or safety concerns immediately. Maintain accurate transportation logs, mileage records, appointment records, and required documentation. Communicate appointment changes, cancellations, delays, or transportation concerns to nursing, social services, and facility leadership. Coordinate with nursing staff regarding resident readiness, special needs, mobility limitations, oxygen requirements, and transfer assistance. Ensure compliance with all facility policies, Ohio Department of Transportation requirements, and applicable healthcare regulations. Maintain confidentiality of resident information in accordance with HIPAA regulations. Provide excellent customer service to residents, families, healthcare providers, and facility staff.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent required. Previous experience in healthcare transportation, senior living, skilled nursing, medical scheduling, or a related field preferred. Valid Ohio driver's license with an acceptable driving record required. Experience operating wheelchair-accessible vehicles preferred. Knowledge of insurance transportation benefits, Medicare Advantage plans, Medicaid transportation programs, and prior authorization processes preferred. Strong organizational and communication skills. Ability to work independently, manage multiple appointments, and prioritize changing transportation needs. Ability to safely assist residents with mobility needs.
Preferred Skills:
Experience working in a skilled nursing facility or healthcare environment. Familiarity with medical appointment scheduling systems. Experience communicating with insurance companies and transportation brokers. Ability to work effectively with nursing, therapy, social services, and administrative teams.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to safely operate facility vehicles. Ability to assist residents with transfers, wheelchairs, walkers, and mobility devices. Ability to sit, stand, bend, push, pull, and lift as required to safely assist residents. Ability to respond appropriately to emergency situations.
Schedule:
Full-Time Position Schedule based on facility transportation needs, including medical appointment coverage.
