Driver Manager/Dispatcher

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Driver Manager/Dispatcher with a proven background in managing drivers, dispatching loads, and planning efficient routes. The ideal candidate has experience in the trucking or transportation industry and can successfully manage the daily operations of drivers while maintaining exceptional customer service and DOT compliance. Responsibilities Dispatch and manage daily freight assignments for Commercial Vehicle Operators and Owner Operators. Coordinate and optimize loads and routes to maximize efficiency, profitability, and on-time performance. Supervise and support drivers, including coaching, performance management, hiring, disciplinary actions, and terminations. Maintain constant communication with drivers regarding schedules, customer requirements, delays, and route changes. Ensure compliance with all DOT regulations, including Hours of Service (HOS), driver qualification files, and FMCSA requirements. Monitor driver performance, productivity, and customer service levels. Oversee equipment availability and maintenance for tractors, trailers, and terminal assets. Investigate and report vehicle accidents and workers' compensation incidents. Build and maintain strong relationships with customers while ensuring service expectations are consistently met. Assist with logistical planning to improve operational efficiency and profitability. Collaborate with Safety, Sales, Human Resources, and other terminals to support daily operations. Identify operational issues and implement solutions that improve overall performance. Required Qualifications Minimum of 2 years of experience managing drivers, dispatching loads, and planning routes in the trucking or transportation industry. Experience supervising CDL drivers and coordinating daily dispatch operations. Strong understanding of DOT regulations, FMCSA compliance, Hours of Service (HOS), and transportation safety. Excellent leadership, organizational, and decision-making skills. Ability to prioritize multiple drivers and shipments in a fast-paced environment. Strong customer service and communication skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel. Experience with transportation management or dispatch software is preferred. Associate degree or equivalent industry experience preferred.
Environment and Physical Requirements:
The majority of the work week will be in office with occasional travel by automobile. Duties to include administrative functions using the phone, computer and communicating with people. This job will require lifting of up to 50 pounds. Must be able to sit a minimum of 8 hours per day, perform keyboard operations a minimum of 6 hours per day, and must be able to stand and climb stairs as required. There will be bending of the waist, wrist and shoulders. Position will be exposed to heavy duty tractor/trailer diesel fumes, dust and noise.
