Intermodal Terminal Manager

Job Description

Horizon Freight System, one of the most experienced intermodal trucking companies in the United States, is looking for a highly motivated, career-minded individual to join our growing operation as an Intermodal Terminal Manager in our Charleston, SC dispatch terminal. This position is full-time, on-site. Responsibilities of the
Position:
Oversee the day-to-day operations of our Charleston, SC dispatch terminal, ensuring the safe, efficient, and timely movement of containers to and from the Port of Charleston, rail facilities, and customer locations. Serve as the primary point of leadership for the terminal by resolving escalated customer and operational issues, making sound business decisions in a fast-paced environment, and maintaining a high standard of professionalism and accountability. Lead, coach, and support dispatchers, office personnel, and owner operators to maximize productivity, maintain high service levels, and foster a positive, team-oriented work environment. Coordinate container pickups, deliveries, chassis utilization, and appointment scheduling while proactively addressing operational challenges, equipment availability, and customer needs. Build and maintain strong working relationships with customers, steamship lines, port authorities, rail providers, and third-party vendors. Monitor key performance metrics including on-time service, container dwell time, driver productivity, safety performance, and overall terminal profitability, implementing improvements where needed. Ensure compliance with all applicable DOT, FMCSA, port, and company safety regulations while promoting a strong culture of safety and regulatory compliance. Develop and grow the terminal by cultivating customer relationships, identifying new business opportunities, and recruiting and retaining high-quality owner operators.
Qualifications & Interpersonal Skills:
Experience managing employees, truck drivers, and daily terminal operations required Port and rail operations experience required Business development experience required Proven capability to prioritize and multitask in a fast-paced setting Exceptional communication and customer service skills
Work Schedule & Benefits:

Position:
Work is performed in an office environment and requires the ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards. Must have the ability to stand, walk, and sit; talk and hear, both in person and by telephone; and reach with hands and arms to lift and carry items up to 25 pounds.
