Job Summary:
Hubbard's Express Air Freight is seeking an experienced Load Planner to join our DFW operations team. The Load Planner is responsible for planning and optimizing daily transportation operations to maximize driver capacity, equipment utilization, route efficiency, and on-time service. This position requires strong analytical and organizational skills and the ability to make fast, accurate planning decisions in a time-sensitive transportation environment. The Load Planner works closely with Driver Team Leaders, Customer Service Representatives, warehouse personnel, and operations management to develop and continuously adjust the daily operating plan.
Responsibilities:
Plan and assign pickups, deliveries, routes, drivers, and equipment based on operational requirements. Build efficient daily load plans that maximize driver and equipment utilization. Review available freight, pickup and delivery requirements, service times, driver availability, equipment availability, and geographic routing. Match loads with appropriate drivers and equipment based on capacity, location, service requirements, and operational constraints. Continuously evaluate the operating plan and adjust assignments as conditions change throughout the day. Identify potential service failures, capacity shortages, scheduling conflicts, and operational risks before they affect service. Balance driver workloads while maintaining efficient coverage of scheduled and time-critical freight. Minimize unnecessary miles, deadhead, downtime, and inefficient equipment movement. Coordinate closely with Driver Team Leaders regarding driver availability, assignments, performance issues, and changes to the operating plan. Coordinate with Customer Service Representatives regarding shipment requirements, service commitments, and changes affecting customer shipments. Coordinate with warehouse personnel regarding freight readiness, staging, equipment requirements, and operational priorities. Monitor active shipments and overall network activity to ensure the transportation plan remains efficient and achievable. Use transportation management systems, dispatch systems, mapping tools, and operational data to support planning decisions. Maintain accurate load, route, driver, equipment, and assignment information within company systems. Assist management with capacity planning, operational reporting, and identification of opportunities to improve productivity. Escalate capacity constraints, service risks, and significant operational issues to management. Follow company procedures, safety requirements, and applicable transportation regulations.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's or bachelor's degree preferred. Minimum 2 years of experience in logistics dispatch or a related field. Comprehensive knowledge of logistics processes, including transportation, warehousing, and distribution. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Strong organizational and multitasking abilities. Proficiency in using transportation management systems (TMS) and dispatching software. Ability to work effectively under pressure and in a fast-paced environment. Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills. Knowledge of relevant geographic areas and routes. Ability to remain calm and focused during logistical challenges. Strong attention to detail. Bilingual abilities are a plus.
Preferred Experience:
Air freight and cartage experience. Final-mile or time-critical transportation experience. Airport pickup and delivery operations. Route optimization and capacity planning. Transportation Management System experience. Experience planning operations involving straight trucks, box trucks, tractor-trailers, cargo vans, or similar commercial equipment. Familiarity with driver Hours of Service and DOT operating requirements.
