Experienced Medical Transportation Router
Job Description
Salute Medical Transportation is seeking an experienced Transportation Router / Dispatcher to join our operations team. We are looking for someone who understands the fast-paced environment of transportation and can efficiently coordinate drivers, trips, schedules, and routes throughout the day. This is not an entry-level position. Previous transportation routing or dispatching experience is required. Experience in Non-Emergency Medical Transportation (NEMT) is strongly preferred. Position Overview The Transportation Router / Dispatcher is responsible for building efficient daily routes, assigning trips to drivers, monitoring schedules, and making real-time adjustments throughout the day. The ideal candidate must be highly organized, dependable, comfortable working under pressure, and able to make quick decisions while maintaining professional communication with drivers, office staff, facilities, and passengers. Responsibilities Build and organize efficient daily transportation routes. Assign trips to drivers based on location, availability, vehicle type, and scheduled pickup times. Coordinate ambulatory and wheelchair transportation. Monitor drivers and trips throughout the day to help ensure on-time pickups and drop-offs. Make quick routing adjustments for cancellations, add-on trips, delays, driver availability, and schedule changes. Communicate clearly and professionally with drivers and office staff. Identify potential scheduling conflicts before they affect service. Coordinate multiple trips and drivers at the same time. Maintain accurate trip and dispatch information. Help minimize unnecessary mileage, driver downtime, and scheduling gaps. Communicate delays or transportation issues to the appropriate team members. Work closely with management and other dispatchers to keep daily operations running efficiently. Required Qualifications Previous transportation routing or dispatching experience is required. Strong knowledge of route planning and trip coordination. Ability to manage a high volume of trips and drivers. Strong computer and data-entry skills. Comfortable working with dispatching, routing, GPS, and scheduling systems. Strong organizational and time-management skills. Excellent verbal and written communication. Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment. Ability to remain professional when handling stressful or time-sensitive situations. Dependable attendance and punctuality.
