Roanoke, VA Job Details $60,000 - $65,000 a year 1 day ago Qualifications Route optimization Route planning High school diploma or GED Full Job Description The Transportation Coordinator will play a vital role in supporting the Transportation Department by conducting detailed research on job site locations during the quotation process. This position will require a strong understanding of tractor-trailer operations, route planning, and map analysis. The ideal candidate will work closely with the Transportation team to ensure efficient and cost-effective delivery of our products. Assists Transportation Manager in the scheduling and day-to-day operations of the department Directs preparation of shelter shipments including the selection of carrier, pick up/loading appointments, preparation of all necessary paperwork, selection and the scheduling of crane companies for offloading. Makes arrangements for any special equipment such as off-road equipment that may be needed at site to ensure customer satisfaction Disperses to appropriate departments paperwork generated by VFP outbound shipments Quote domestic and international transportation rates to marketing for bid purposes Interacts with the Duffield plant on transportation matters Ensure compliance with Department of Transportation regulations Maintains adherence to company policies and safety standards Performs other necessary duties as assigned by managerJob Site Research:
Conduct thorough research on job site locations to gather relevant information, including accessibility, terrain, and any potential obstacles for delivery.Route Analysis:
Evaluate and analyze potential delivery routes, considering factors such as distance, road conditions, and regulatory restrictions.Tractor-Trailer Operations:
Develop a comprehensive understanding of the capabilities and limitations of tractor-trailer operations to ensure smooth and safe deliveries.Quotation Support:
Assist in the quotation process by providing accurate and detailed information regarding job site logistics, helping to inform cost estimates and carrier selection.Documentation:
Maintain organized records of job site research, route plans, and any other relevant data to support the Transportation Department.Collaboration:
Work closely with the Transportation team, including the Transportation Manager, to coordinate efforts and ensure alignment with company objectives.Problem-Solving:
Identify and address potential issues that may arise during the delivery process, offering solutions to mitigate risks and ensure successful project execution.Education:
High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor's degree in logistics, transportation, or related field is preferredExperience:
Prior experience in transportation, logistics, or a similar field is beneficialCertificates, Licenses or Registrations:
Knowledge/Skills:
Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess and evaluate complex logistical scenarios; Proficiency in map reading and route planning software; Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal; Detail-oriented with strong organizational abilities; Ability to work independently and as part of a teamCareer Insights for Transportation Manager
