Transportation Superintendent
Job Description
Qualifications:
- 4-year college degree in Logistics or Business preferred.
- 5-10 years management level experience in the distribution.
- Expert use of Microsoft Word, Excel and Access and associated applications is strongly preferred.
- Extensive knowledge of transportation related software including: routing optimization software (Manugistics JDA); truck on-board computer software (XATA); dispatch software (CAMS).
- Excellent analytical and problem solving skills.
- Must be able to manage effectively in a team environment.
- Strong leadership skills, ability to mentor staff.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
- Proven track record of cost reduction and increased productivity.
- Strong labor relations skills including contract administration, negotiations and arbitrations.
- Excellent operations planning and follow up.
- Expert knowledge and experience in operating within the guidelines of
DOT, OSHA, HEALTH
DEPT. and other regulatory agencies. Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:- Oversee all product movement for the Seattle Division Distribution Center.
- Supervise up to 140 drivers and direct the workforce.
- Coordination of transportation operations with Distribution Center Management and Warehouse Operations.
- Provide superior service to retail stores through on-time delivery and timely return of salvage.
- Provide a safe work environment for all employees.
- Proven ability to manage employee relations (policy, contractual, leadership).
- Communicate with, and listen effectively to employees.
- Responsible for profit and loss of Transportation Department including employee costs, worker's compensation, equipment, and facilities.
- Develop budgetary and departmental goals.
- Implement cost-saving measures within the department.
- Participate on the negotiating team in all distribution center union contract negotiations.
- Keep abreast of Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations; ensure all employees and equipment are in D.O.T. compliance.
- Optimize the utilization of equipment and staffing in a dynamic environment.
- Execute corporate vision and foster a lean distribution, continuous improvement environment.
