This vital role involves leading a team of skilled technicians in the safe and efficient burial of fiber optic cables and other telecommunications infrastructure. The Crew Lead will ensure that all work complies with safety standards, technical specifications, and project deadlines. Duties Supervise and lead underground drop bury crews during fiber optic cable installation, ensuring adherence to safety protocols and project specifications. Coordinate daily work schedules, assign tasks, and monitor progress to meet project timelines. Operate heavy equipment such as bucket trucks, trenchers, and excavators safely and efficiently for cable burial activities. Utilize diagnostic tools and telecommunications testing equipment to verify proper installation and network performance. Interpret technical drawings, schematics, and construction plans to guide installation processes accurately. Perform telecommunications cable splicing, fiber splicing, and network testing to ensure high-quality connectivity. Conduct safety inspections in compliance with the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) and company policies, promoting a culture of safety on-site. Skills Extensive experience with field service operations in outdoor environments involving telecommunications infrastructure. Proficiency in heavy equipment operation including bucket trucks, power tools, and hand tools used in underground construction. Strong knowledge of fiber optic systems installation, fiber splicing, and troubleshooting fiber optic networks. Ability to interpret technical drawings, schematics, and wiring diagrams related to telecommunications networks. Familiarity with telecommunication testing equipment such as voltmeters, LAN/Ethernet testers, and telephony testing devices. Knowledge of low voltage electrical systems, cabling techniques, and network infrastructure including WAN (Wide Area Network) and LAN (Local Area Network). Experience with telecommunication outside plant operations, electrical safety standards (NESC), and construction best practices. Technical proficiency in computer networking concepts related to IT infrastructure supporting telecommunication systems. Climbing skills for working at heights on poles or structures; experience with low voltage wiring is preferred. Ability to troubleshoot engineering issues related to fiber optic cables, network cabling, or electrical systems efficiently.
