WHAT WE NEED
The Town of Harrisburg currently has an employment opportunity in our Public Works Department for a Utility System Crew Leader. The Utility System Crew Leader leads and participates in a variety of semi-skilled and skilled work as a leader or member of a crew engaged in the construction, installation and repair of water and sewer lines, meters, hydrants, valves and other appurtenances. Work involves constructing new lines, making water and sewer taps, installing new water meters and meter boxes, installing hydrants, meters, and valves, and making repairs to the water distribution and sewer collection system. Other tasks include providing field customer service to check water leaks and high usage complaints, connect and disconnect service, maintaining hydrants and valves; troubleshooting; locating water lines for other contractors; clearing water line easements; operating heavy construction equipment at a skilled level; and related tasks. Employees are subject to working in both inside and outside environments, in extreme hot and cold weather, and exposure to various hazards such as loud noises, vibration, moving mechanical parts, electrical current, chemicals, fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases, poor ventilation, and oils. The employee is also subject to on-call and call-back work and the final OSHA standards on bloodborne pathogens. Work is performed under regular supervision and is evaluated through observation and inspection for adherence to instructions and standard trade and safety practices.
DESIREABLE CANDIDATE
Graduation from high school and at least five years of experience in utility system operations or a related field, including considerable experience in the maintenance or construction of water and/or sewer utilities and skilled heavy construction equipment operation. Considerable leadership and supervisory experience in water distribution and/or sewer collection system maintenance or construction is required; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Possession of a valid North Carolina Commercial Driver's License (CDL). Possession of at least three (3) State of North Carolina certifications in water distribution, wastewater collection, backflow prevention and cross-connection control, and/or other certifications as required by the Town of Harrisburg.
