Job Description

Breakdown Coordinator Part-Time | Weekend Shift (Friday and Saturday) 5AM-5PM | Starting at $18/hour Keep Our Drivers Moving When It Matters Most Are you the person people call when a truck is down and they need someone who actually understands what they're talking about? We're looking for a Weekend Breakdown Coordinator who knows their way around heavy-duty trucks and can think on their feet. This is not a basic call-center position. We need someone with enough mechanical knowledge to listen to a driver describe an issue, ask the right questions, determine the best next step, and get that truck moving again as quickly and safely as possible. When breakdown calls are quiet, you'll also support our maintenance team as a Service Writer, helping coordinate repairs, technicians, parts, and repair orders. If you have a diesel, trucking, fleet maintenance, or service-writing background and you're great at solving problems, this could be a great fit. What You'll Be Doing Weekend Breakdown Coordination Be the primary point of contact for drivers experiencing mechanical issues, tire failures, accidents, and other roadside problems. Use your hands-on mechanical knowledge to troubleshoot issues over the phone and determine the severity of the problem. Decide whether a truck can safely make it to a shop or if it requires roadside service or a tow. Find the fastest and most cost-effective solution to get the driver and equipment back on the road. Coordinate with mobile mechanics, towing companies, tire vendors, dealerships, and outside repair facilities. Communicate ETAs and repair updates with drivers, dispatch, and fleet maintenance leadership. Track each breakdown from the initial call through completion. Accurately document repairs, vendors, costs, downtime, and other important details. Recognize recurring equipment issues and bring potential patterns to the attention of fleet maintenance leadership. Escalate accidents, injuries, and major mechanical failures according to company procedures. When the Phones Are Quiet You'll also help keep the shop running smoothly by: Opening and managing repair orders for our shop technicians. Communicating with technicians regarding repair status, priorities, and parts needed. Updating maintenance and TMS systems with accurate repair information. Helping order and track parts for open repairs. Closing completed repair orders and ensuring documentation is complete. Assisting with prioritizing weekend shop work based on breakdowns and fleet needs. What We're Looking For The ideal person for this position understands trucks and isn't afraid to make a decision. We'd love to talk with you if you have: A solid mechanical understanding of heavy-duty trucks and trailers, including diesel engines, brakes, electrical systems, tires, and suspension. 2+ years of experience as a Diesel Technician, Service Writer, Commercial Driver, Breakdown Coordinator, or in a fleet maintenance role preferred. The ability to troubleshoot mechanical problems based on information provided by a driver. Good judgment when deciding between roadside repair, towing, or sending equipment to a shop. Strong communication skills and the ability to explain technical information clearly. The ability to stay organized while handling multiple breakdowns and repair orders at once. Reliable availability for Saturday and Sunday weekend shifts. Familiarity with DOT out-of-service criteria and CVSA inspection standards is a plus. Experience with fleet maintenance or TMS software such as Decisiv, Fleetio, TMT, or Dossier is a plus. Compensation Starting at $18.00/hour, with compensation based on experience. Why This Role Is Different You're not just answering a phone and passing along messages. You're the person helping make the call. You'll use your mechanical experience, problem-solving skills, and judgment to help drivers in real situations, coordinate repairs, control downtime, and keep the fleet moving. If you know trucks, enjoy solving problems, and can stay calm when a driver calls saying, "I've got a problem," we'd like to hear from you. Apply today and let's talk.
