Position Summary Supervises subordinate operative staff to ensure effective operation of section. Schedules and coordinates van transportation of residents to a variety of designated locations, such as hospitals, clinics, human services offices, Social Security offices, and public housing communities. Issues, receives and maintains Handi-Ride tickets for Tidewater Rapid Transit (TRT) program; includes issuing tickets to properly certified residents. Coordinates special requests for transportation with NRHA staff and external agencies. Responds to telephone calls. Prepares and maintains monthly mileage and passenger records. Prepares incident reports, maintains quality control standards and conducts passenger satisfaction surveys. Receives and acts on resident and other complaints regarding transportation services. Trains, counsels, and arranges training of subordinate staff. Periodically accompanies drivers on their routes to identify and act on service quality matters; may be required to go on scheduled evening and weekend routes. Schedules and arranges for preventive maintenance of vans. Conducts scheduled inspections of service vehicles. May operate van as needed. Essential Functions Supervises subordinate operative staff to ensure effective operation of section: may perform full range of supervisory activities, including but not limited to assigning and coordinating work; acting on employee problems; and hiring, promoting, developing, disciplining, and rewarding employees. Schedules and coordinates van transportation of residents to a variety of designated locations, such as hospitals, clinics, human services offices, Social Security offices, and public housing communities: assigns drivers to transport residents to designated locations; operates beeper and cellular telephone to dispatch van drivers; informs NRHA security staff if vans will be used after regular hours or on weekends; and monitors and assures transport schedule is maintained or properly changed. Issues, receives and maintains Handi-Ride tickets for Tidewater Rapid Transit (TRT) program; includes issuing tickets to properly certified residents. Coordinates special requests for transportation with NRHA staff and external agencies.
Responds to telephone calls:
screens calls, identifying which calls should be redirected to other units or staff; provides information to callers, exercising tact, and courtesy in making responses. Prepares and maintains monthly mileage and passenger records; submits quarterly resident transport report to immediate manager. Prepares incident reports, maintains quality control standards and conducts passenger satisfaction surveys. Receives and acts on resident and other complaints regarding transportation services. Trains, counsels, and arranges training of subordinate staff. Periodically accompanies drivers on their routes to identify and act on service quality matters; may be required to go on scheduled evening and weekend routes. Schedules and arranges for preventive maintenance of vans. Conducts scheduled inspections of service vehicles. May operate van as needed. Minimum Qualifications Three to five years of experience in organizing routes, scheduling and communicating with customers. Any equivalent combination of training, education and experience necessary to obtain the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Special Requirements Must possess a valid driver s license. Subject to a background check, pre-employment health check, and reference verification prior to hire. Must maintain confidentiality and adhere to NRHA s code of conduct and ethics policies. Physical Requirements While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk, see, or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Job requires depth perception. NRHA will consider equivalent substitutes for education and/or experience, provided that the candidate can demonstrate that he/she has obtained the knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the job. VRS Contribution:
All full-time employees are required to contribute 5% of annual salary toward their retirement account; in accordance with VRS retirement provisions.
