Job Description
This position is responsible to lead and supervise the Yard crew, ensuring a safe work environment and efficient movement of freight. Essential Duties Operate safely and in compliance with all established HSSE policies and procedures Ensures compliance with DOT regulations, company policy, and all applicable local, state, and federal laws Ensures safe and accurate loading, securement and labeling of customer freight Oversees yard traffic and appointment scheduling Schedules yard labor, approves timesheets and PTO requests Administer performance reviews, disciplinary meetings and actions in coordination with Human Resources Manages the growth and success of the team by providing guidance and direction, mentoring, professional development and training Maintain open and effective communication with other departments and managers, proactively mitigating issues and concerns Field incoming calls and emails, responding appropriately and timely to internal/external customer inquiries Ensures equipment is well maintained and in good working order Perform other duties as assigned Qualifications High school diploma or GED equivalent Five years previous Yard experience, at least three years in the transportation industry KSAs Strong problem solving skills to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form High level of attention detail and accuracy Excellent verbal, written and listening communication skills Must be self-motivated and outcome focused, with developed decision making skills Strong interpersonal skills, active listening and relationship building skills Working knowledge of MS Office applications including Word, Outlook, and Excel, and basic know of transportation computer based systems Treats people with respect; keeps commitments, inspires the trust of others, works with integrity and ethically, upholds organizational values Basic math skills for load planning and rigging Knowledge and experience with rigging and craning Ability to prioritize work throughout the day
