Job Description

Shipping & Receiving Supervisor At Comstock , keeping materials moving safely, accurately, and efficiently is essential to keeping operations running strong. We are seeking a Shipping & Receiving Supervisor to take the lead in overseeing daily shipping, receiving, material handling, inventory movement, and logistics activities across the facility. This hands-on leader will guide the Shipping & Receiving team while ensuring materials, supplies, finished products, and equipment are received, stored, documented, and shipped with precision. Working closely with Production, Operations, Maintenance, vendors, customers, and transportation providers, the Shipping & Receiving Supervisor will help maintain an organized flow of materials throughout the facility and ensure logistics activities consistently support production requirements and company objectives.

To thrive/succeed as the Shipping & Receiving Supervisor, you should have: High school diploma or GED. Shipping, receiving, warehouse, logistics, manufacturing, or material-handling experience, with knowledge of shipping procedures and documentation. Forklift and material-handling equipment experience, along with basic computer skills using inventory, shipping, email, and company software systems. Strong organizational, communication, leadership, and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize and solve problems in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Valid driver's license. Previous shipping & receiving leadership or supervisory experience, including inventory management, ERP systems, or freight scheduling preferred. Knowledge of DOT requirements, load-securement practices, CDL experience, or experience handling industrial materials, containers, pallets, and bulk shipments preferred. Physical Requirements Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, climb, and lift up to 50 pounds. Ability to work around forklifts, trucks, trailers, and industrial equipment in indoor and outdoor environments. Ability to wear required PPE and safely access loading, storage, and facility areas. Leadership & Performance Expectations Lead by example with a strong focus on safety, accountability, communication, and professionalism. Maintain accurate documentation, organized work areas, and effective inventory and material-handling processes. Develop employees, address issues through resolution, and support continuous improvement. Ensure safe, efficient, and compliant shipping and receiving operations with minimal errors and timely communication. Your responsibilities as the Shipping & Receiving Supervisor will include: Leadership & Supervision Supervise, schedule, and provide daily direction to Shipping & Receiving Operators based on production and logistics needs. Monitor performance, attendance, productivity, and adherence to company policies and procedures. Train and develop employees on procedures, equipment operation, documentation, safety, and opportunities for advancement. Support employee evaluations, coaching, corrective actions, and development plans while promoting teamwork and accountability. Shipping & Logistics Coordinate outgoing shipments, including preparation, packaging, labeling, documentation, loading, and load securement. Schedule pickups with carriers, trucking companies, vendors, and customers. Verify bills of lading, packing lists, weights, quantities, and other shipping documentation for accuracy and compliance. Monitor shipping schedules, maintain shipment records, and communicate delays or issues to affected departments. Receiving & Inventory Oversee receiving and unloading of materials, supplies, equipment, and deliveries. Verify incoming materials against purchase orders and shipping documentation, inspecting for quantity, condition, damage, and accuracy. Document and communicate shortages, overages, damage, and other discrepancies. Maintain accurate inventory and material movement records and coordinate materials between receiving, storage, production, finished goods, and shipping areas. Assist with physical and cycle counts, investigate discrepancies, and maintain organized staging and storage areas. Safety, Equipment & Compliance Ensure employees follow safety policies, PPE requirements, and proper material-handling practices. Conduct routine inspections and ensure forklifts, trailers, loading areas, and material-handling equipment are operated safely and maintained appropriately. Coordinate equipment repairs and report unsafe conditions, spills, injuries, or damaged equipment. Participate in safety meetings, incident investigations, corrective actions, and continuous improvement initiatives. Ensure applicable DOT, CDL, load securement, hazardous-material, and transportation requirements are followed. Communication & Coordination Maintain regular communication with the Operations & Facility Manager regarding staffing, shipping schedules, inventory, equipment, and operational priorities. Coordinate with Production Supervisors and Leads to ensure materials are available when needed. Communicate professionally with drivers, carriers, customers, vendors, and visitors. Maintain clean, organized, and safe docks, warehouses, yards, storage, and staging areas. Escalate significant shipping, receiving, inventory, safety, or personnel issues to management.
