$20-$22 per hour (commensurate with experience) Job Summary The Assistant Dockhand is responsible for assisting with the day-to-day operation, care, and maintenance of the LBYC and LBSF fleets. This position will assist with boat preparation, cleaning, fueling, basic maintenance, docking, launching, and general dock operations. The Assistant Dockhand will work closely with the Director of Marine Operations and other Marine Operations staff to ensure the boats, docks, and equipment are safe, clean, and ready for member use and club events. Job Knowledge, Core Competencies and Expectations Experience operating and/or maintaining 20'-40' sailboats and powerboats, including basic outboard engine maintenance and sailboat rigging. Experience safely docking and mooring vessels up to 80' preferred. Working knowledge of basic regatta equipment such as flags, race marks, ground tackle, etc. preferred, but not required. Excellent communication, organization, and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal. Ability to safely drive while trailering a 25' trailer, including parking and loading/unloading at both boat ramps and hoists. Experience with fiberglass repairs and epoxy resins preferred, but not required. Working knowledge of rigging, tuning, basic repairs, and general boat maintenance. Comfortable using basic hand tools and power tools. Enthusiastic, flexible, trustworthy, self-motivated, and able to take direction and follow through on assigned tasks. Ability to work independently while also working as part of the Marine Operations team. Job Tasks/Duties Assist with the care and maintenance of the Soling fleet, Catalina 37 fleet, Club Duffy, and support boats. Clean, prepare, launch, dock, and retrieve boats as needed. Assist with daily preparation of boats for member use, lessons, practices, and club events. Clean and maintain boats, docks, and surrounding Marine Operations areas. Wash and wax the Soling fleet according to the fleet schedule. Clean, prepare, and cast-off/catch Club Duffy for LBYC member reservations. Assist with the check-in/check-out of Soling Sailboats and communicate any issues or damage to the Director of Marine Operations. Make sure all equipment and gear is properly stored after every use. Assist with regular engine flushes and check engine oil levels, adding approved marine engine oil as necessary. Assist with basic boat repairs and maintenance as directed. Report any damage, mechanical issues, or maintenance concerns to the Director of Marine Operations. Assist with launching, hauling, trailering, and moving boats as needed. Assist with regatta preparation, setup, and breakdown as directed. Assist with dock operations and provide general support to members using club facilities and boats. Help maintain a safe and enjoyable environment for all members both on and off the water. Follow all LBYC policies and safety procedures and defer to the Director of Marine Operations or Dockmaster when necessary. Attend events, functions, and meetings as directed. Perform other Marine Operations duties as assigned. Licenses/Special Requirements US Powerboating Safe Powerboat Handling Certification / California Boater's Card. US Sailing SafeSport Certification. Red Cross certifications in CPR, AED, and First Aid. US Sailing Membership preferred, but not required. Job Requirements Full-time, 40+ hours per week. Additional hours may be required for weekend regattas and club events. Must be able to reach, bend, stretch, twist, stoop, and stand. Must be able to push and lift up to 50 pounds safely. Must be able to stand for long periods of time. Must be able to sit for prolonged periods of time. Must be comfortable working both indoors and outdoors in conditions that may be hot, humid, wet, and noisy. Must be comfortable working aboard both small and large boats, both in the harbor and in open ocean. Must be willing to work weekends, holidays, and varying hours based on club activities and events.
