Job Description

Objective:
The Rail Terminal Operator will support industrial rail operations at customer terminals and facilities. The position works closely with facility personnel and supervision to maintain safe, efficient operations.

Split shift operation Coverage from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM 6 days per week Rotating schedule based on terminal workload and railcar activity Overtime opportunities may be available based on operational demand
Key Responsibilities:
Unload inbound freight from trailers using forklifts, pallet jacks, and manual handling — verifying piece counts against inbound manifests Sort freight by destination lane, delivery route, or outbound trailer assignment according to sort instructions Scan all freight using handheld or conveyor-mounted scanners; ensure scan accuracy for freight tracking and billing Load outbound trailers following load plans: proper weight distribution, stacking procedures, and bracing for transit integrity Operate forklifts, electric pallet jacks, and other powered industrial trucks in compliance with OSHA safety requirements Document overages, shortages, and damaged freight accurately; complete freight exception forms and notify supervisors Assist in building freight pallets, crating oversized items, and securing special-handling shipments Maintain dock housekeeping: clear aisles, stow equipment properly, and dispose of banding and packaging materials
Required Job Skills:
Ability to work safely outdoors in all weather conditions. Ability to wear PPE without restriction. Strong attention to detail and ability to follow procedures. Prolonged standing and walking throughout the shift Frequent lifting, bending, twisting, and reaching in confined trailer spaces Work in variable temperature dock environments — cold in winter, warm in summer near open dock doors
Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED. Valid driver's license and current auto insurance. TWIC card (or ability to obtain, depending on job site). Prior rail switching, terminal, or industrial experience a plus, but not required. Appropriate motor vehicle record with no more than three minor moving violations; no drug-or alcohol related offenses; and no serious/major moving violations.
