Position Overview Flying Plow Farm is looking for a skilled Operations Manager to oversee day-to-day logistics at our current facility and lead the move and expansion to our new facility, representing a major milestone in our organization's growth. This role is hands-on facility management, where you will direct the daily flow of a 6,500sq. ft. temperature-sensitive warehouse, overseeing inventory, cold storage, team scheduling, order preparation and dispatch, and fleet management in a fast-paced environment. About Flying Plow Farm Flying Plow Farm is a working Certified Organic farm and local food distribution operation based in Rising Sun, MD. Through The Flying Plow, LLC, we operate a wholesale food hub connecting regional producers to institutional and retail buyers, and manage an active portfolio of federal and state grants that support our mission of building resilient local food systems. We're a small, mission-driven team that moves fast, values precision, and takes our love of food very seriously. Key Responsibilities Warehouse & Facility Operations (Primary Focus)

Daily Logistics Management:

Lead overall facility logistics: coordinate daily staff schedules, optimize floor workflows, and manage receiving, inventory placement, and outgoing deliveries.

Team Mentorship & Accountability:

Direct and mentor the floor team including the pack house crew and delivery drivers; cultivate a culture of safety, accountability, and high-efficiency performance.

Inventory Accuracy:

Maintain precise, real-time inventory records usinga custom software suiteacross all receiving and distribution points.

Equipment & Cold Chain Oversight:

Monitor cold chain integrity and storage equipment (refrigeration/freezer units) while ensuring safe operations of machinery like forklifts and pallet jacks.

Regulatory Readiness:

Keep the facility fully compliant with all applicable regulatory standards [e.g., FSMA, GAP/GHP], ensuring we are always audit-ready.

Process Standardization:

Establish and refine standard operating procedures (SOPs) to boost facility efficiency and support smooth, long-term scaling.

Facility Build-Out & Launch Contractor Coordination:

Work with external contractors during the setup and launch phase to ensure the space is optimized for physical flow.

Food Safety Certification:

Collaborate with food safety consultants and inspectors to secure all necessary certifications and approvals.

Staff Onboarding:

Help recruit, onboard, and train new operational staff as facility operations scale.

Partner & Client Fulfillment Partner Liaison:

Act as the primary on-site liaison for farm partners, producers, and vendors during deliveries, reinforcing our quality expectations and standards.

Order Fulfillment:

Guarantee top-tier order accuracy and on-time distribution for CSA members, key wholesale accounts, and community partners.

Quality Control:

Conduct rigorous quality control checks on all inbound and outbound inventory. Required Qualifications 3+ years managing warehouse, distribution, or logistics hubs—ideally involving perishable goods or cold-chain management. Proven experience leading floor staff and coordinating physical workflows in a fast-moving environment. Solid understanding of food safety protocols and storage guidelines [

FSMA, GAP, GAPP

]. Comfort using digital inventory systems and other software; clean driving record and valid driver's license. Willingness to work occasional weekends and early mornings to match distribution timelines. Deep alignment with our mission of providing high quality local food to our community. Preferred Qualifications Background in local food systems, agricultural distribution, or farm-to-table supply chains. Familiarity with industry-specific commercial regulations Food safety credentials (e.g., ServSafe, PCQI, or GAP audit experience) Multilingual, specifically English/Spanish Licensed forklift operator or hands-on material handling experience. The role requires flexibility to work occasional weekends and early mornings to align with distribution timelines. As we launch this new facility, the Operations Manager will play a hands-on role in build-out, staffing, and process development during the initial launch period.
