SUMMARY OF POSITION
The Warehouse Lead is a key member of the Operations Team responsible for overseeing daily warehouse operations, supply chain activities, and volunteer coordination. This role ensures efficient food distribution, compliance with safety standards, and collaboration across departments. The Warehouse Lead plays a critical leadership role in supervising volunteers, maintaining operational continuity, and supporting agency-wide events and initiatives.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Warehouse & Supply Chain Operations
- Lead daily warehouse operations, including receiving, sorting, storing, and distributing donations.
- Drive agency vehicles (including box truck) for donation pickups and deliveries, ensuring proper documentation and safe transport.
- Ensure compliance with food safety regulations, Food Bank standards, OSHA, and internal protocols.
- Maintain warehouse cleanliness, organization, and operational efficiency.
- Assist with in-kind donation processing and inventory management.
- Ensure proper preparation and maintenance of all vehicles and equipment. Volunteer Oversight & Coordination
- Supervise all volunteers working within the warehouse.
- Ensure volunteers are never left unattended and maintain a visible and active presence whenever volunteers are present in the warehouse area.
- Assign appropriate tasks to volunteers based on operational needs.
- Enforce safety guidelines and organizational policies.
- Ensure volunteers do not access restricted areas or sensitive information under any circumstances.
- Collaborate closely with the Volunteer and Community Engagement Coordinator for scheduling, planning, and support of volunteer activities. Cross-Department Collaboration
- Coordinate with the Facilities Coordinator regarding supply ordering and operational needs.
- Work collaboratively and communicate regularly with Kitchen, Facilities, and Volunteer teams to ensure adequate daily coverage, seamless operations, and support of organizational goals. Events & Community Engagement
- Attend and actively participate in all required agency events, including food drives and outreach activities.
- Coordinate logistics for warehouse involvement in events. Reporting & Communication
- Report directly to the Director of Programs.
- Proactively communicate operational needs, challenges, and resource requirements.
- Escalate issues promptly to ensure effective resolution and continuity of services.
- When assigned to events outside normal hours: § Coordinate with the Director of Programs to ensure adequate warehouse coverage. § Adjust schedule as needed to support organizational needs. Safety & Compliance
- Maintain a safe work environment for staff and volunteers.
- Ensure proper use of equipment and adherence to safety procedures.
- Maintain required certifications (e.
g., forklift, food handling, CPR, etc.).
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate compassionately and professionally.
- Proficient in data entry, Microsoft Office, and general computer use.
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and maintain reliability and trustworthiness.
- Willingness to learn and participate in ongoing training.
- Ability to follow established procedures and respect the chain of command.
- Valid North Carolina driver's license preferred.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's degree in Human Services or related field preferred.
- Prior experience in administrative support, customer service, or human services strongly preferred.
