Job Title:
General Laborer Job Description This role supports food production operations across two facilities, one focused on cooking soups, broths, and seasonings, and the other on cooking and packaging pet food. You will perform a variety of general labor tasks such as assisting cooks, packing cases, loading and unloading materials, and supporting overall production flow in a fast-paced, hot environment. Responsibilities Assist cooks in preparing and producing soups, broths, seasonings, and pet food according to established processes and quality standards. Work in a hot production environment while maintaining safety, cleanliness, and adherence to good manufacturing practices. Lift and move up to 50 pounds as an assistant cook and frequently lift 30+ pounds in other roles as needed. Collaborate closely with cooks to mix ingredients and help create finished dog food and soups. Load and unload trucks with raw materials and finished products as a case packer or loader/unloader. Transport raw materials from storage areas to assistant cooks to support continuous production. Move racks of packaged soups and other finished products throughout the facility to designated areas. Operate as a utility or "floater" worker, performing a combination of assistant cook, case packer, loader/unloader, and general labor tasks based on operational needs. Support food preparation, food production, and packaging activities on the production line. Sort, organize, and stage products and materials to keep workflows efficient and organized. Follow all safety, quality, and sanitation procedures, including wearing required personal protective equipment. Maintain a clean and orderly work area and promptly report any issues or hazards to supervision. Essential Skills Ability to work safely and effectively in a hot, fast-paced production environment. Capability to lift up to 50 pounds and frequently lift 30+ pounds throughout the shift. Experience or familiarity with food preparation, food production, or general labor in a manufacturing setting. Ability to perform case packing, loading, unloading, and utility tasks as assigned. Comfort working on production lines, including sorting and packaging products. Reliability to work assigned shifts and overtime as needed. Willingness to follow good manufacturing practices (GMP) and all safety and sanitation guidelines. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with general help roles such as mixing, batching, or material handling in a production or warehouse environment. Experience in food prep, food production, or packaging operations. Experience as a packer, loader, or utility worker in a manufacturing or distribution facility. Ability to adapt quickly to different tasks and rotate between roles such as assistant cook, case packer, loader/unloader, and utility. Strong attention to detail and ability to follow written and verbal instructions. Why Work Here? Work Environment The facilities are not climate controlled and typically operate around 75 degrees, with certain areas hotter due to cooking processes. This is a good manufacturing practice (GMP) environment, where you will wear a smock, hairnet, safety glasses, and other required protective gear. The role follows a shift-based schedule, with a first shift from 5:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and a second shift from 3:30 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. Employees currently work approximately 10 hours of overtime, and weekend work is generally avoided but may be available on a voluntary basis. The work is physically demanding and hands-on, involving frequent lifting, movement of racks and materials, and continuous activity on the production floor. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Beloit, WI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $15.00 - $19.00/hr.
