Job Description

Job Title:
General Laborer Job Description This role supports general production in a precast concrete manufacturing facility, helping to build concrete structures such as panels, flared ends, side walls, boxed culverts, and custom forms. You work across dry cast, wet cast, and panel intake areas, contributing to a highly process-oriented environment that produces both high-volume and custom concrete products. The position is physically demanding, similar to construction work, and involves working with hand tools, reading blueprints, and using precise measurements to ensure products meet quality and safety standards. Responsibilities Assist with general production duties in the dry cast, wet cast, and panel intake areas to manufacture concrete structures including highway panels, bridge panels, flared ends, side walls, boxed culverts, and custom forms. Work in the dry cast area to produce boxed culverts from a dry, packable concrete mix, following a highly process-oriented workflow where each team member has a defined role. Read and interpret blueprint drawings to understand product specifications, dimensions, and production requirements. Use a tape measure accurately to a sixteenth of an inch to verify measurements and ensure products meet precise dimensional standards. Operate and use hand tools safely and effectively for tasks such as assembling forms, adjusting components, and finishing concrete products. Perform general labor duties in the yard and production areas, including moving materials, setting up forms, cleaning workspaces, and assisting coworkers as needed. Lift, carry, and maneuver materials and products weighing up to 50 pounds throughout the shift in a labor-intensive environment. Follow established production processes and standard operating procedures to maintain consistency, quality, and safety in all tasks. Train over time on overhead cranes and forklifts to move large concrete structures and materials safely within the plant and yard. Support cross-training initiatives by learning tasks in different divisions and at both plant locations to increase flexibility and coverage across the operation. Work both indoors and outdoors in varying temperatures and weather conditions while maintaining productivity and safety. Adhere to all safety policies, wear required personal protective equipment, and promptly report any hazards or incidents. Collaborate with a small, team-oriented crew, communicate effectively with coworkers and supervisors, and contribute to a positive, process-driven culture. Participate in occasional overtime and weekend shifts according to the plant's production schedule and seasonal workload. Essential Skills At least 1 year of experience in general production, construction, steel work, or a similar hands-on labor environment. Ability to read and use a tape measure accurately to a sixteenth of an inch. At least 1 year of experience working with hand tools in a construction, production, or related setting. Ability to lift, carry, and handle up to 50 pounds on a regular basis. Comfort working in a physically demanding, dirty, and hot environment similar to construction work. Capability to read and understand blueprint drawings and follow detailed instructions. Strong attention to detail and precision in measuring and building to specification. Comfort working both indoors and outdoors in all seasons and weather conditions. Willingness to be cross-trained in multiple areas and adapt to different tasks and divisions. Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented, process-driven production environment. Reliable attendance and willingness to work overtime, including occasional weekend hours, as production demands. Additional Skills & Qualifications Construction, carpentry, masonry, or concrete experience is preferred. Experience in landscaping, groundskeeping, or landscape labor is beneficial for candidates familiar with outdoor, physical work. Experience in production or manufacturing environments is an advantage. Familiarity with yard work or yardman duties, such as material handling and organizing outdoor storage areas, is helpful. Interest in learning to operate overhead cranes and forklifts over time. Comfort working in a process-oriented environment where roles and steps are clearly defined. Willingness to follow safety protocols and wear required personal protective equipment. Ability to adapt to changes as the company grows and implements new training and engagement programs.
