Job Description

GPA is currently seeking a Material Handler located in our McCook, IL Headquarters. This person will safely and efficiently stage WIP material for production. They will follow daily production schedule, putting away finished goods, and work with the warehouse to ship out completed orders. This person will interact with GPA management, customer service, sales, warehouse, and all other departments in a respectful, helpful, and professional manager while performing daily responsibilities.
Position Responsibilities:
Assess the daily schedule and work with the Production Scheduler and Production Supervisor to plan and staging materials in the WIP Areas. Communicate to the Production Supervisor any inventory adjust needed to meet the production schedule. Stage Fedrigoni packaging material, per the set schedule; returning it to finished goods inventory once completed. Move stock, or other materials to and from racking or production areas, loading docks and delivery trucks using forklifts, or other designated equipment. Safely operate various equipment including, but not limited to a handheld scan guns and computers in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures. Perform Inventory transactions through the WYSIS or ERP system to reflect the physical movement of inventory (including corrugated). Coordinate end-of-day activities with the Production Supervisor to ensure all production orders are fulfilled and transported to shipping. All production numbers are reported properly, and all necessary material is put away from that day. When moving material in and out of production, verify the accuracy of the quantities, labels, and part numbers against inventory and production information. Ensure all finished goods are wrapped and labeled in accordance with the current procedure prior to being placed in inventory or filled for an order. Ensure that the material required for the next day's production is staged in the WIP Area or at Equipment for the start of the next shift. Troubleshoot stock placement issues and work with the Production Supervisor to rectify them. Work with the sample department to schedule samples in need of cutting or treating. Safely and effectively utilize various equipment including forklifts, banding machines, shrink wrapping machines, etc. Shut down and return all equipment used to the appropriate location at the end of each shift. Ensure that the assigned equipment is properly maintained and any maintenance is accurately recorded on logs. Identify machinery in need of inspection, servicing, and maintenance. Follow proper procedures for addressing these issues. Alert GPA Management of any unsafe conditions or activities in or around the facility. Maintain a clean work area by cleaning equipment, and sweeping in accordance with daily and weekly housekeeping standards. Be flexible and provide backup to other functions as assigned; including but not limited to receiving and loading of materials for production center items and providing backup support for the warehouse.
Position Requirements:
High school diploma or GED desired, some college or continuing education strongly preferred. 2-4 years previous warehouse, logistics experience required. Highly effective organizational skills and the ability to be detail and process oriented. Strong computer skills including Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, Starship or other related shipping software, and ERP software experience desired. Experience with WYSIS or scan guns strongly desired. Works independently, with little direction. Strong Customer Service attitude both to internal and external customers. Excellent judgment (problem solving) and the ability to build trust and collaborative relationships with colleagues and customers. Works well under pressure and can operate successfully and a very fast paced working environment. Previous forklift experience required, stand up experience preferred. Ability to lift and handle cartons weighing in excess of 50 pounds consistently throughout the day Willingness and ability to work overtime as needed Ability to fill in for people that are absent Dependable - Arriving on time, with good overall attendance, and reliable transportation Cooperative - Pleasant towards others on the job and a cooperative attitude All post-offer candidates will be subject to the successful completion of a pre-employment background check and drug screen before they can begin employment.
