Material Handler Job Description The 1st shift Material Handler works in a custom job shop environment, supporting welding and machining operations by safely moving materials, handling documentation, and assisting with general labor tasks throughout the facility. Responsibilities Load and unload trucks safely and efficiently using appropriate equipment and techniques. Operate a sit-down forklift to move materials to and from machines and designated storage areas. Review, complete, and sign required documentation accurately, following established procedures and training. Stage materials for production to ensure machines receive the correct items on time. Return finished or partially finished materials from machines to designated locations. Empty garbage cans and dumpsters to maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area. Perform general labor tasks as needed to support daily shop operations. Follow all safety guidelines and standard operating procedures while working on the shop floor. Communicate effectively with team members and support a collaborative work environment. Carry out other miscellaneous duties assigned by leadership to meet production needs. Essential Skills Experience operating a sit-down forklift in an industrial or warehouse environment. Ability to safely load and unload trucks using forklifts and other material handling methods. Strong attention to detail when handling materials and completing documentation. Ability to review, understand, and accurately complete paperwork and documentation. Capability to perform general labor tasks in a manufacturing or job shop setting. Reliable teamwork skills, with the ability to get along well with team members and contribute to a positive work environment. Additional Skills & Qualifications Comfort working in a custom job shop environment that supports welding and machining operations. Willingness to learn internal documentation processes and systems. Flexibility to perform a variety of tasks and adapt to changing priorities during the shift. Strong work ethic and dependability, with consistent and timely attendance. Why Work Here? Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Rockford, IL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $19.00/hr.
