Job Description

Job Title:
Material Handler Job Description The Material Handler verifies and records incoming and outgoing materials and products, moves materials between storage areas and production departments, and ensures accurate inventory records in the stockroom and storage areas. This role supports production by receiving, storing, issuing, and tracking materials while maintaining a clean, safe, and organized work environment. Responsibilities Verify and keep accurate records of incoming and outgoing materials and products. Route incoming items to the appropriate storage or work areas. Store materials in bins, on the floor, or on shelves according to identifying information such as style, size, or material type. Determine appropriate methods of storage, identification, and stock location, considering temperature, humidity, height and weight limits, turnover, floor loading capacities, and space requirements. Mark part numbers and identifying information on articles to ensure proper tracking. Assign storage locations when required and update the computer system accordingly. Review and receive manufactured parts into the stockroom and update the computer system to reflect accurate inventory levels. Move parts from one workstation to another in accordance with parts routing and production requirements. Pick orders and issue supplies from stock, including pulling orders from pick lists and components for job orders, and deliver them to designated areas. Maintain and monitor shortages, ensuring timely communication and replenishment. Perform cycle count inventory of stock, investigate and resolve discrepancies, and compile and maintain related reports. Maintain accurate inventory and other stock records in the computer system. Operate a forklift, pallet jack, electric cart, or hand truck to move materials and products safely between storage and work areas. Follow all safety rules and maintain a clean, orderly, and organized work area. Record daily attendance and production information in the timekeeping system. Maintain reliable and consistent attendance. Provide backup support to related functions such as Shipping and Receiving when needed. Essential Skills High school diploma or equivalent. 3 to 5 years of work experience in a warehouse environment. Experience entering and retrieving data from a computer terminal, personal computer, or mainframe system. Knowledge of inventory transaction processing and stockroom operations. Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence and communicate effectively in one-on-one situations with coworkers. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to read and use a standard tape measure accurately. Ability to apply common-sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Proficiency in basic computer operation for inventory input and recordkeeping. Experience with picking orders, stockroom work, inventory counts, cycle counts, and inputting information into a computer system. Ability to operate warehouse equipment such as forklifts and pallet jacks safely. Experience in Shipping and Receiving functions. Additional Skills & Qualifications Comfort working with inventory management systems and stock records. Familiarity with using industrial equipment including computer terminals, printers, copiers, forklifts, pallet jacks, and other warehouse tools. Strong attention to detail and accuracy in recording inventory and material movements. Organizational skills to manage multiple tasks such as picking, stocking, and cycle counting. Ability to work independently and follow established procedures with minimal supervision. Willingness to support other warehouse and logistics functions as needed. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Rockford, IL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $22.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
