Job Summary:
The Material Handler 2 is responsible for supporting bindery operations by accurately following work instructions to lay up, feed, jog, and stack printed materials for further processing or shipment. This role involves manual handling of signatures, completing production documentation, and preparing materials for safe transit using proper strapping, padding, and labeling techniques. The position requires attention to detail, efficiency in material handling, and occasional operation of industrial equipment to ensure timely and accurate movement of products within the facility.Duties/Responsibilities:
Read and follow work orders or verbal instructions to determine required materials or components for production tasks.Lay-up, feed, or pile down materials at bindery equipment, ensuring consistent material flow and proper handling.
Jog and stack products from counter stacker onto skid, maintaining alignment and quality for downstream processing.
Separate and handle signatures by hand according to specific customer or job requirements.
Accurately complete production records, including daily counts, skid flags, and packaging slips for tracking and inventory.
Secure materials for transport using strapping, bracing, padding, and labeling, and operate material handling equipment as needed.
Stack or assemble materials into bundles and bands bundles together, using banding machine and clincher.
May use automated equipment and/or occasionally operate industrial truck or electric hoist to assist in loading or moving materials and products.
Performs other related duties and participates in special projects as assigned.
Basic Qualifications:
HS diploma or equivalentReasoning Ability:
Capable of applying common sense understanding to carry out simple written or oral instructions.Mathematics:
Able to read, copy, and record figures; may involve basic addition and subtraction.Language Skills:
Able to read simple instructions, recognize basic vocabulary, and speak in complete sentences using standard grammar and tenses. Able to stock, move, arrange, and rotate items in accordance with operating instructions or under guidance of a higher-level employee. A team player who works well with others.Desired Skills and Abilities:
Basic knowledge of general warehouse layout, item identification codes, basic knowledge of warehouse procedures and familiarity with the storage areas in order to be able to place or pull paper stock, signatures and materials in accordance with standard procedures. Basic skill in the use of shrink-wrap or strapping equipment, manual dollies, pallet jacks, carts or hand trucks and hand tools used in material handling tasks such as hammers, pliers, strapping and stretch wrapping tools and equipment, tape fasteners, metal band sheers and related equipment.Physical Requirements Ability to exert 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, 10 to 25 pounds frequently, and up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.
Frequently lift and carry items weighing 10 to 20 pounds; occasionally lift 20 to 70 pounds.
Constant reaching and upward reaching during material handling tasks.
Frequent standing for prolonged periods of time and handling materials; occasional sitting, walking, and fine motor activities Frequent bending, lifting and twistingMust tolerate loud noise levels and occasional exposure to atmospheric conditions and other environmental factors.
