Job Title:
Material Handler Job Description This role ensures the accurate movement, storage, and documentation of materials throughout the facility to support efficient production operations. The material handler uses material handling equipment and scanning technology to move products safely, maintain inventory accuracy, and keep work areas clean and organized. Responsibilities Use a hand-held RF scanner to record the movement of products from storage locations to staging areas for production use. Scan and return all unused materials from production areas back to storage, ensuring accurate inventory records. Double-check all materials coming out of production for proper labeling and adherence to storage requirements. Move materials within the plant, yard, or worksite in a safe and efficient manner. Review product pull sheets or follow verbal instructions to determine which materials or containers need to be moved. Load and unload materials onto and from pallets, racks, and shelves, frequently lifting up to 50 pounds. Convey materials to and from storage and designated areas using forklifts, hand trucks, or pallet jacks. Count and record the number of units of material moved or handled on daily production pulls to maintain accurate records. Maintain all work areas in a clean, organized condition, free of debris and obstructions. Conduct a daily walkthrough of assigned areas to verify that conditions are safe and acceptable before work. Demonstrate regular, punctual attendance and reliability in reporting to assigned shifts and locations. Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor to support overall operations. Essential Skills Proficiency in operating forklifts, including sit-down forklifts, in a safe and controlled manner. Hands-on experience with general material handling activities such as loading, unloading, picking, and packing. Ability to operate pallet jacks and hand trucks to move materials within the facility. Experience using RF scanners or hand-held scanners for tracking and recording inventory movements. Mastery of a Materials Handler I role or equivalent, with approximately 3-5 years of experience as a Material Handler, Shipping and Receiving associate, and forklift driver. Physical ability to perform vigorous, strenuous work, including frequently lifting up to 50 pounds. Good spoken and written English communication skills to understand instructions and document work accurately. Basic math skills to count, record, and verify material quantities. Reliability in maintaining regular, punctual attendance. Flexibility to report to any company facility according to operational needs, including with same-day notice. Additional Skills & Qualifications High school diploma preferred. Experience working in production, warehouse, or distribution environments. Attention to detail when verifying labels, storage requirements, and inventory counts. Strong safety awareness and commitment to maintaining a clean and hazard-free work area. Ability to follow oral and written instructions accurately and efficiently. Comfort working with standardized procedures while adapting to changing priorities. Why Work Here? Work Environment This position is based in a production and warehouse setting where materials are stored, staged, and moved throughout the plant, yard, or worksite. You will work on either 1st shift (6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.) or 2nd shift (11:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.), with regular opportunities for overtime and Saturday work. The role involves frequent lifting of up to 50 pounds and standing, walking, and operating equipment for most of the shift. You will regularly use sit-down forklifts, pallet jacks, hand trucks, and RF hand-held scanners to move and track materials. Work areas must remain clean and free of debris, and daily safety walkthroughs are part of the routine to ensure a safe, orderly environment. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of San Fernando, CA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $23.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
