Job Title:
Material Handler Job Description The Material Handler supports production operations by ensuring raw materials, components, and finished goods are moved accurately and efficiently throughout the facility. This role plays a key part in keeping manufacturing lines supplied, organized, and running smoothly while consistently following established safety procedures and quality standards. Responsibilities Move raw materials, components, and finished goods between warehouse and production areas in a timely and accurate manner. Load and unload trucks and verify incoming materials to ensure correct quantities and items are received. Stage and deliver materials to production lines to meet build schedules and minimize downtime. Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and carts after completing required training and certification. Pull materials using pick lists or work orders, ensuring correct items and quantities are selected. Perform basic inventory transactions, including labeling, scanning, and recording material movements. Assist with cycle counts and other inventory accuracy activities to support reliable stock levels. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, including proper storage and housekeeping practices. Follow all safety procedures, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and quality standards at all times. Support general production, assembly, machine operation, and inspection tasks as needed to assist the team. Essential Skills Experience in general production, warehouse production, or picking orders. Comfortable lifting 40 to 50 pounds on a regular basis. Ability to stand, bend, lift, and perform repetitive tasks throughout the shift. Basic ability to read work instructions and follow written and verbal directions. Background in production, general labor, assembly, machine operation, or inspection. Willingness and ability to operate forklifts, pallet jacks, or carts after training and certification. Additional Skills & Qualifications Prior material handling, warehouse, or manufacturing experience preferred. Forklift experience is helpful, ideally with about 2+ years of prior operation, or a strong willingness to be trained. Comfort working in a manufacturing and assembly line environment. Attention to detail when handling materials, labeling, and performing inventory transactions. Reliability and punctuality for 1st shift work schedule. Why Work Here? Work Environment This role is on 1st shift, typically working from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, with the potential for shifts up to 10 hours depending on production needs. The position is based in a manufacturing and assembly line environment that involves regular movement of materials, operation of material handling equipment such as forklifts and pallet jacks, and close coordination with production teams. The work is physically active, requiring standing, bending, lifting, and repetitive tasks in a fast-paced setting, with an emphasis on maintaining a clean, organized, and safe facility. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Freeport, IL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $18.50 - $22.50/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
